Quicken Windows files to a Quicken Mac needs you to set up Quicken on both PCs because Macintosh and Windows both require software programs precise to their operating systems and you can’t use your computer version of Quicken Software on a Mac and inversely. Installing and using Quicken on a Mac device has been a frustrating experience. Business vendors who use Quicken software to track finances, invoices, taxes and payments can save their Quicken files in a format that a Mac PC can read well. This permits you to migrate your Quicken Windows data to a Mac system.

Create a QIF File to Export Your Data

Launch Quicken software on your Windows computer and then click “Tools” > “Account List.”

Select “Options” and then click “View Hidden Accounts.”

Now click “Manage Accounts.” And uncheck all of the “Hide in Quicken” checkboxes.

Rename the file names for any accounts which have more than 15 characters or special characters by right-clicking the account name and clicking “Edit.” Change all Ticker symbols to uppercase letters. Now, give a new name and then click “OK.”

Click every tab that holds financial data, for e.g. Personal Cash Flow and Business, and then click “Accept All.”

Choose the “File” menu, “Export” and then choose “QIF” as the file format. Click on the “Browse” button and go to the location where you want to save the file.

Enter the file name “Accounts.qif” into the text box and click “OK.”

From the “Quicken Account to Export From” section, choose the drop-down menu. Select the account you want to transfer from to the Mac version of Quicken Software.

Select the date range for the transactions you want to export to your Mac. Then, select the “Accounts” check box to export only your Accounts file. Complete the similar process for Securities, Categories and Transactions. Then, click “OK.”

Now insert a CD into your CD drive that is formatted in a FAT file format so that both your Macintosh and Windows computers can access that files. Locate the files and burn them to your CD.
