Security software is one of the critical programs for the system. But when this program shows the error; your device may get into malware infection. Users must inspect for the error and troubleshoot it immediately. The error on the security program can appear due to numerous reasons.
Check the program compatibility with your system
When the user is facing an error with the security program while installing then check the compatibility. Users sometimes download the security setup without checking its requirements. A program needs some resources for installation and working. When you are installing a program and it is showing the error then check its requirements. Now inspect the resources available on your device like RAM, processor, hard disk, etc. If the resources didn’t match with the requirements then you can’t install it. Remove the setup from the PC and then search for the compatible security program.
Remove the junk from your PC
Users can face Norton security error 8504 and 100 when the system has accumulated lots of junk. The junk files on the computer use the free space and fill up your hard disk. But if you didn’t remove the junk for a long time; those files may start corrupting other programs. You have to remove those files from the computer to repair the security software error. Firstly, remove all the temp files accumulated on the system. Now inspect for other junk. Go to your drive and check your files and folder. Checking all the files for the junk is difficult. If you can’t inspect every file manually then you can try using the junk cleaner tool. Windows has a junk cleaner that scans for every junk file accumulated on the system. Open the run tab and then type cleanmgr. Run the clean manager tool and wait for the scanning. Now, go to the report list and check the boxes you can delete. Now hit the OK button to remove all junk from your device. Restart the PC to apply changes and then run your security software.
Revert system changes
Security software can stop working when the user has made some changes to the settings. Many times, users edit the settings mistakenly. Those changes can lead to various errors in the system. When the antivirus is not running after the changes then you have to undo them. Again, open the settings and revert the changes to default. The user can also run the restore tool in case they didn’t remember the default settings. Run the system restore tool and then you have to provide the restoring point. Now again open your program and try to scan your device.
Remove other security programs
Users sometimes forget to remove the old security program from the system. Those programs can often interrupt your active antivirus program. When you see the error message on the security software then inspect the installed programs list on your device. If you have the setup of another security program then remove it. Uninstall all those programs and then restart the computer. If the error is occurring due to interruption then removing other security programs will fix it.
Inspect the system files
Some of the system files can also get your security software into error. These files get corrupted due to some changes or any runtime error. Those files can’t work properly and then start interrupting other programs. You have to edit the files to repair them. But never edit those files without guidance. Any wrong edit can damage the whole device. If you can’t edit those files manually then you can run the file scanner. Your PC has an inbuilt file scanner that inspects the computer for damaged files. You have to run the SFC/scannow tool and it will repair the damaged files from the computer. Once you repair the files; run your security program and remove the malware.
Reinstall security program
A user can get a software-related error when its files are corrupted or went missing. You can run the repair tool for fixing the corrupted files. But those tools can’t fix all the corrupted files on the system. Another simple method is reinstalling it. You have to remove the program and then reinstall it on your system.
