Eligibility for SBI PO exam

Nationality / Citizenship

A candidate must be either:

  • A Citizen of India or
  • A subject of Nepal or
  • A subject of Bhutan or
  • A Tibetan Refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India,

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories 2, 3, 4 and 5 shall be a person n whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

  • The minimum and the maximum limit of the age of candidates who can apply for the SBI PO Exam is: 21-30 years of age.

Educational Qualification for SBI PO Exam

  • The minimum qualification for SBI PO exam is: Graduation
  • Those who are in the Final Year/Semester of their Graduation may also apply provisionally for SBI PO Exam subject to the condition that, if called for interview, they have to produce proof of having passed the graduation examination.

SBI PO Pre-Exam Training

  • Bank may arrange pre-examination training at certain centres for SC/ST/Religious Minority Community candidates in consonance with the guidelines issued by Government of India.
  • Candidates belonging to the above categories who desire to avail themselves of such training at their own cost may indicate to that effect against relevant column while applying on-line.

Main Examination SBI PO

  • Main Examination consists of Objective Tests for 200 marks and Descriptive Test for 50 marks.
  • Both the Objective and Descriptive Tests will be online.
  • Candidates will have to answer the Descriptive Test by typing on the computer.

Descriptive Test:

  • The Descriptive Test of duration: 30 minutes
  • Two questions for 50 marks will be a Test of English Language (Letter Writing & Essay).
  • Group Exercises: 20 marks
  • Interview: 30 marks

Note:

Candidates qualifying for GE& Interview under ‘OBC' category would be required to submit OBC certificate containing the ‘Non-Creamy layer' clause. Candidates who have registered themselves as OBC but do not submit OBC ‘Non-Creamy layer' certificate and request to be interviewed under General category will not be entertained.

Important things to remember

  • A penalty for wrong answers: 1/4thof marks assigned to the question
  • Only the marks obtained in Main Examination, both in the Objective Test and the Descriptive Test, will be added to the marks obtained in GE & Interview for preparing the final merit list.
  • Marks secured by the candidates in the Main Examination (out of 250marks) are converted to out of 75 marks.
  • Group Exercises & Interview scores of candidates (out of 50 marks) are converted to out of 25 marks.
  • The final merit list is arrived at after aggregating (out of 100) converted marks of Main Examination and Group Exercises & Interview.

Number of Attempts for different categories to appear for the exam:

  • General: 4
  • General (PwD): 7
  • OBC/ OBC (PwD): 7
  • SC/SC(PwD)/ST/ST(PwD): No restrictions
  • The maximum number of chances are fixed for each category.
  • Candidates who have used up all the chances are not eligible to apply.
  • Appearing in Preliminary Exam is not counted as an attempt but appearing in Mains Exam is counted.
