TheScream franchise team recently released a new photo for the upcoming fifthmovie, Scream 5. Scream is a meta-horror movie franchise that consists of fourslasher films, merchandise, a video game, and a TV series. Kevin Williamsoncreated the franchise, and Wes Craven directs the four films. Some greatactors, including Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and Neve Campbell, are thefilm cast, and Roger L. Jackson has voiced the various Ghostface killers.
The franchise collected a gross of $608.5 million against a budget of $118million. And now the production is working on the fifth project of thefranchise, Scream 5. Fans are waiting for the movie for quite a long time, andafter almost nine years, the franchise is coming up with the fifth movie.However, audiences will miss Wes Craven’s involvement in the project.
Actor, novelist, and filmmaker Craven passed away at the age of 76 in 2015,three years after the release of the fourth movie of the Scream franchise,Scream 4. Scream 4 was a welcome return of the horror movie franchise for theoriginal screenplay writer of the team Kevin Williamson. The fourth film failedto impress its audience and did a poor business of $161.8 million against abudget of $40 million. The movie got an approval rate of 39% based on 122reviews, with an average rating of 5.22/10. And the critical consensus of thesite remarked it as “despite some interesting twists, the movie fell on itsface.” Scream 4 got a mixed response from critics and viewers as well.
After the disappointing performance of the last movie, fans are excited aboutthe franchise’s upcoming project. Scream 5 is under production, and TylerGillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin direct the project. Guy Busick and JamesVanderbilt are serving as writers for the film. The franchise’s original castwill be back in this one, including Courteney Cox, Neve Campbell, MarleyShelton, and David Arquette. Other than that, Jenna Ortega, Dylan Minnette,Melissa Barrera, Jack Quaid, Kyle Gallner, Mikey Madison, Jasmin Savoy Brown,and Sonia Ben Ammar are some actors who joined the franchise in the fifthproject.
The project has not revealed much about the project for a long time except thatthe movie is under production since September. Still, fans are excited knowingthat the film is on its way. Now the team has officially released new pictureson the official handle of Scream. The image comes out just before Halloween andteases its fans. It is a photo of a Jack-o-lantern, and the killer’s favoriteknife is stuck on it. The pumpkin sitting on a chair appeared to be of someactors’ or director’s seat on the set. And the post is captioned as “Giving the(emoji of the knife) a little test. #HappyHalloween (emoji of pumpkin).”
The fifth movie plot, Scream 5, follows a young woman as she returns to herhometown and encounters a horrific murder case to a serial killer.
After the release of Scream 4, Craven confirmed and signed for the next twoprojects: the fifth and sixth installment of the franchise. The shooting of thefilm was scheduled to start in May 2020. However, it was delayed due to thepandemic COVID-19. Later the filming began on 22 September 2020 in Wilmington,North Carolina.
The knife in the picture is a careful move indicating something important inthe upcoming film. The team has not revealed any concrete details about theplot but in an interview with Roger L Jackson- the voice of the Ghostface gavesome hints of the involvement of more than one killer. The horror franchise isknown for its killers. The audience was hoping for the 2021 release, but due tothe coronavirus, the film is now expected to be released on 14 January 2022.
It will be interesting to see how the Scream’s franchise will turn out afterthe absence of one of the greatest horror film directors, Wes Craven. With thenew director, Scream 5 could make a whole new perspective towards the franchise,and to witness that, we have to wait until the release.
