The pleated or corrugated paper was copyrighted in England way back in 1856 and was initially used for making of tall hats. It was patented to Albert Jones of New York City for the single faced corrugated board. The corrugated board was initially used for packing glass and pottery containers. In the mid 1950s it was used to package fruit and like products from the farm straight to the retailer so that it reached without getting bruised

What Is A Corrugated Sheet?

Corrugated fibreboard is a type of material that comprises flute like sheets with one or two flat linerboards in between. It is manufactured on the flute lamination machine or corrugators and it is typically used for making cardboard boxes.

The linerboards are made from kraft containerboard which is a type of material which is usually 0.01 inches thick. It is at times known as corrugated cardboard though a cardboard is any heavy paper-pulp based board.

Properties of the Corrugated Sheets

Corrugated sheets have certain distinct properties and characteristics. They are enumerated as follows.

-Moisture Content: The moisture content of the sheet has to be exactly right and perfect for it to hold. If the moisture content is low it will crack the board and if it is too high the compression strength will reduce.

-Edge Crush Test: It determines the compression strength of the box.

-Burst Strength: It determines the pressure required to break the corrugated sheet.

-Box Compression Strength: This speaks of the performing capability of the corrugated boxes.

-Flat Crush Test: It measures the rigorousness of the flutes.

-Bending Resistance: It determines the ability of the box to stay firm.

-Impact Resistance: It tells us how much load or impact the corrugated sheet can bear.

-Cushioning and Shock Absorption: It tells how much cushioning the box can provide and shock which it can absorb.

-Tear Resistance: This tells about the ability of the sheet to remain in one piece without tearing.

How It Is Manufactured?

Corrugated paper is manufactured with the help of huge machinery lines which are high precision in nature. These machines are called corrugators which run at 500 feet per minute. The corrugator machine softens the paper with high pressure steam. The freshly prepared corrugated sheet is treated with heat from the bottom with hot plates and varying degrees of pressure is applied from the top with a load system on the belt.

In the single faced corrugated sheet, it is heated, moistened and finally formed into fluted patterns on a geared wheel.

Single Paper Corrugated Sheets: A single paper corrugated sheet is the viable option because the double faced sheet poses a problem in the form of its inability to print on its surface because of its thick and spongy nature. But in the single faced sheet the traditional fluted sheet is pasted to the pre printed liner sheet replacing the second liner sheet.

To achieve this process a special machine like the Single Paper Corrugation Machine is utilized. The corrugator is a set of machines which can bring about the fixing of a set number of sheets to bring the desired sheet. It goes through three stages to finally form into the single corrugated sheet.

These machines are available with Single Paper Corrugation Machine Supplier Amritsar and are of a very good quality.
