Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and the leading cause of death worldwide. For the treatment of hormone-sensitive breast cancer, various hormonal strategies are available, including antiestrogens and third-generation aromatase inhibitors, such as Exemestane. Exemestane is a steroidal third-generation AI now used in all treatment settings for breast cancer. 

Exemestane belongs to the class of drugs known as aromatase inhibitors. It is hormone therapy appropriate for women who have completed menopause and have oestrogen receptor-positive breast cancer. Exemestane is sometimes used to suppress ovarian function in women who have not yet reached menopause. If the cancer is hormone receptor negative, exemestane will be ineffective.

Exemestane tablet works by decreasing the amount of oestrogen produced in the body. Some breast cancers rely on oestrogen in the body to grow. These are referred to as oestrogen receptor-positive (ER+) breast cancers. Exemestane is generally administered post-surgery to reduce the risk of breast cancer recurring or spreading. If you are undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy, your healthcare professional will advise you on the best time to begin exemestane. 

Exemestane may be used as the first treatment for breast cancer in some cases, such as when surgery is not appropriate or must be delayed. It is sometimes administered prior to surgery to help shrink a large breast cancer. Exemestane can also be used to treat reoccurring breast cancer. It can also be used to treat breast cancer that has spread to another part of the body and is frequently used in conjunction with another active ingredient.

Take this medicine by mouth, typically once daily with food, or as your doctor has prescribed. The General dosage is 25mg but it is determined by your medical condition, response to treatment, and any other medications you are taking. Inform your healthcare provider about all of the medicines you are taking. Use this medication on a regular basis to get the most out of it. Take it at the same time every day to help you remember. Exemestane 25mg can cause hot flashes, sweating, muscle or joint pain, fatigue, headache, and dizziness.
