The Resident Evil reboot team released new photos, which teases a connection to Spencer Mansion, which is a crucial setting from the original video game.

Resident Evil is based on Capcom’s Japanese video game franchise. The series consists of six films. The movies follow Alice (played by Milla Jovovich), a former security specialist who battles the Umbrella Corporation. The corporation’s bioweapons have triggered a zombie apocalypse. Few characters from the games appeared in the movie, including Carlos Oliveira, Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Leon S. Kennedy, Ada Wong, Claire Redfield, and antagonists Umbrella’s top virologist, James Marcus, and the head of Umbrella Corporation, Albert Wesker.

The Resident Evil movie series is the highest-grossing movie series based on a video game that collected $1.2 billion worldwide. The first few Resident Evil movies were true to their source material. Still, the later projects in the franchise deviated from the original video games. Director Johannes Roberts has taken over the directional responsibilities of the franchise. Roberts is looking to honor the legacy of the video games in 1998 Raccoon City.

Johannes Robert is a British film writer, producer, and director known for thriller and horror movies. Roberts is famous for his underwater thriller film 47 Meters Down. The director started his career at the age of 22 in 2000. He self-funded his film Sanitarium for £5,000; it was a worldwide release. After his movie release, Robert directed a low budget horror film, Forest of the Damned, for DVD. Later the British director wrote and directed Other Side of the Door starring Jeremy Sisto, Javier Botet, Sarah Wayne Callies, and Sofia Rosinsky. The movie was entirely filmed in Mumbai and collected a gross of $14 million. He also directed the sequel of the horror movie The Strangers, titled, The Strangers: Prey at Night.

The reboot of Resident Evil was announced in 2017 with EP James Wan. However, in 2018, Wan exited from the project, and soon after, the writer Greg Russo also left the reboot. Roberts was then hired to write and direct the new film.

The film stars Robbie Amell, Kaya Scodelario, Neal McDonough, Hannah John-Kamen, Donal Logue, Avan Jogia, and Tom Hopper. Filmmaker Roberts shared that the reboot will be an original plot set in 1998, based on the first and second games.

During an exclusive interview with Screen Rant in August 2019, Roberts revealed that his version of Resident Evil would be more logically tied to the video games’ world. He also shared that the upcoming film will not be an action-adventure movie. Instead, he will make it a “super, super scary” horror film. Now the team has shared some new photos, and they confirm that the reboot has a connection to the source material.

Residence of Evil has posted a bunch of photos on Twitter. The pictures provide the first look at the entrance of the famous Spencer Mansion. Some of the pictures represent the S.T.A.R.S UH-1/204B model helicopter, which was landed near the Spencer Mansion after the engine failed in 1998. The images were captioned “Our First Look at what appears to be the Spencer Mansion + NEW pictures S.T.A.R.S. helicopter from the #ResidentEvil reboot! (shock emoji)(ghost emoji) #ResidentEvil #ResidentEvilReboot”

After being criticized for a few years, the franchise seems to come back to track again. Roberts is trying to bring back the essence of the franchise for which the film series was popular in the first place. Hopefully, the reboot of Resident Evil will serve as a nostalgic experience for a long-time.
