Grease is a semi-liquid lubricant which has a higher viscosity level than the regular oil. Grease is a combination of oil, soap and grease which is more desired than other kinds of petrol-based lubricants because of its non-dripping nature unlike the latter kinds of lubricants.

Grease is generally applied to machinery working under high pressure where friction is at its highest. In such cases a grease pump is required to apply the grease and generally these pumps are attached to the machinery when grease is injected at regular set intervals.

What is a Grease Pump?

A grease pump works on the same principle as a grease gun. In a grease pump a lubricant is applied through an aperture or opening to a specific point from a grease cartridge to a grease fitting or grease nipple. A few channels are created behind the grease nipple from where the grease is drained off to the place where it is required.

The vent is a type of vent which fits very closely to the receiving opening on any number of devices. The vents are made to closely fit so that oil does not drip and is applied to only where it is required. As grease pump or gun is an essential in every workshop or factory, many Grease Pump Distributors have come up in every nook and corner of the country.

Types of Grease Pumps or Gus

Grease pumps or guns can be operated in three different ways. They can be operated by hand, air or electricity. The supremacy of each of the machines depend on the intended use or application and on how the lubrication technician’s personal preference.

In the hand powered type, the grease is forced out of the opening by back pressure built by hand cranking the trigger of the gun which applies pressure to the spring behind the lubricant thus forcing it out through the opening.

There is yet another variety of the hand powered type which has no trigger mechanism but the grease is ejected out by the back pressure built by pushing the butt of the grease gun or pump. It then slides a piston through the whole of the tool pumping the grease out.

The air-powered or the pneumatic is another variant. Here compressed air is administered to the gun or pump by hoses where that air pressure serves to push the grease through the vent.

In the electric powered pump or gun, an electric motor navigates a high pressure grease pump. It is very often battery operated to make it portable.

Caution While Using the Grease Pump

Every piece of machinery needs to be handled with caution or else an accident is just waiting to happen. In the same way even grease pump or gun must be handled with care and a few precautionary measures. The measures are many.

The first measure to be taken care of is the face; it must be kept at a good distance from the discharge point. The instruction manual has to be carefully followed to avoid any accidents. The work should be done wearing protective gear and a daily check is a must. It should be used only according to the specific task it is capable of handling.

When the machine becomes unsafe to be used, immediate usage should be stopped. Water and dust should be prevented from entering the machine. To get hold of good quality grease pump or machines there are many Grease Pump Distributors all over India to supply it when contacted.
