Kids tend to play games that are make-believe, also known as pretend play where they imagine being a doctor or a store owner. They may engage in imaginative play alone or with a group of friends. There are plenty of benefits that imaginative play contributes to a child’s development.

Imaginative play fosters creativity by providing a safe space for children to act out scenarios & scenes of their choosing, including situations that they may not be able to experience in real life. Imaginative play also develops your child's physical attributes. Activities such as connecting puzzle pieces together to build their city or fitting a doll's hand into the socket will aid your child to develop their motor skills.

Playing pretend with their friends provides an opportunity for kids to practice and develop their language and social skills by merely being with and talking to other children. Imaginative play with friends can create scenarios in which not everyone gets what they want. This situation will help them boosts the development of problem-solving and self-regulation skills. Because imaginative play is such a healthy contributor to a child’s development, parents should actively encourage their children when they engage in imaginative play.
