One of the highlights of Filmland last year was Nichols's new film, “The Bikeriders Flixtor.” It's his biggest picture in terms of ambition and budget since “Loving,” which came out in 2016. It was influenced by the 1968 book of the same name by photojournalist Danny Lyon, which examined the members and first-hand accounts of the Chicago Outlaws Motorcycle Club. A selection of Lyon's photographs and interviews during his mid-1960s tour with the Outlaws were included in the book. Similar to Lyon's book, Nichols aims to dismantle the overly idealized perception of this motorcycle subculture from the 1960s. He doesn't, however, run from the sentimental appeal of the era.
