Gin has been a favourite drink in the UK and all over the world in fact, for many years, and it simply keeps growing with no hint of lessening. With the rise of the Craft Gin industry globally, more and more people are preferring this clear smooth drink to other types of liquor, due to their extensive flavours and also the many health benefits offered by Gin.

The predominant flavour of Gin is the Juniper berry, but in recent times Craft Gin distillers have combined this with a variety of other botanicals found locally and imported as well, including herbs, spices, seeds, flowers, fruits, leaves and so much more, to create artisan Gins that seems to have captured gin lovers everywhere.

If we go to talk about the different brands of Gins available in the market, then there will be no end to it, however what are the different types of Gin available out there, whether it be mass-produced Gin or Craft Gin?

London Dry Gin – This type of Gin that originated in England has a very strong juniper flavour together with strong citrus notes. This type of Gin is absolutely natural; and known for not including artificial sweeteners and other such ingredients.

Old Tom Gin – Old Tom Gins were traditionally made in homes, hence why they are more commonly referred to as bathtub gins. Distillers use a large amount of liquorice when making this type of Gin making it much sweeter than other types, and are ideal for mixing and making cocktails.

Plymouth Gin – This Gin resembles London Dry Gin but has an earthier tone to it and is much drier. It is made only in Plymouth, hence the name. With 7 botanicals included in this Gin, it is sweeter with more citrus flavour than most other types.

Navy Strength Gin – This is one Gin that certainly packs a punch and offers 57% volume. It has a very intense flavour and was once made for the Royal Navy.

Genever Gin – This Gin does not have that predominant juniper berry flavour but leans more towards malts, and is richer than other types of Gin.
