The release date of The Gray Man has again been delayed due to the increasing COVID-19 cases in California.

Joe and Anthony Russo’s upcoming The Gray Man is an adaptation of the 2009 novel of the same name written by Mark Greaney. It is produced by the Brother’s production company AGBO and stars Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Pamela Anderson, Wagner Moura, Dhanush, and Tamanna Bhatia. The Gray Man is the most expensive movie by Netflix until now.

The plot of the movie follows an EX-CIA operative, Court Gentry (Ryan Gosling) who betrayed his agency. Hence another operative, Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans), is appointed to hunt him down.

The project was originally set up at New Regency with the director James Gray. Brad Pitt was initially cast for the project. However, by October 2015, both the actor and the director left the project. The studio has not shared any details regarding the project. There are no further details regarding the production of the movie since July 2020. However, the shooting is said to start on 14 January 2021, in Long Beach, California. But, the production was delayed by two weeks.

Due to the high production cost of the movie, the streamer lately struggled to keep the productions running in between the pandemic. Recently, the production work of the fourth season of Netflix’s comedy series Dear White People has shut down since many of the cast, and crew members tested COVID-19 positive. The streaming studio faced similar difficulties during the production of the German movie Transatlantic 473 after the increasing case of coronavirus positive crew.

According to Netflix’s safety measures, it looks like the action thriller movie, The Gray Man, will remain in the pre-production stage until the cases level off. Deadline shared that Netflix is postponing the production of the Russo Brothers’ The Gray Man due to the concern regarding the rising of the COVID-19 cases in California.

The upcoming film is a big-budget movie for Russo Brothers since the Avengers: Endgame. The project might also be the last box office sensation since the pandemic, lockdown, and recent Warner Bros. new model will break the theaters’ backbone. Netflix is hoping that The Gray Man franchise will become as big as the James Bond films, making the hype.

The outbreak of coronavirus in California with 41,000 new cases on 18 December has put the film’s production on high stake. Netflix is delaying the movies in order to avoid any shutdown. Hopefully, the studio has a deep pocket to make the set a safe place to work.
