Apple has announced six months that it is working on a private new Android app for users. Now Apple has unveiled the new Tracker Detect app that locates unknown AirTags. CNET first spotted this new app that allows owners of the best Android phones to scan for nearby trackers separated from their owners.
You can disable the tracking by removing the battery from your AirTag. The app instructs you on how to disable it. If the tracker is in lost mode, you can get the details of the tracker owner by tapping their NFC-enabled phone, and it will show you the owner’s detail. This tracker app responds to privacy concerns that arose after Apple launched the new tracker earlier this year.
Is Apple updating the privacy concerns?
Apple is working to address privacy concerns and update the AirTag to reduce its time to ring an alert when it’s away from its owner. The reduced alert time will make it easier for anyone to be alerted of any unknown AirTags nearby. Apple is working to give more power to find nearby AirTags without waiting for an automatic alert with the new tracker Detect app.
Apple is extending new capabilities to Android devices with advanced privacy and security features, according to an Apple spokesperson told CNET in a statement. According to a statement from a spokesperson of “the Tracker, detect app gives Android users the ability to scan for an AirTag or Find My enabled item trackers that might be traveling without their knowledge.
Apple says Android users find a nearby Airtag if they think someone is tracking their location. The Tracker Detection app is useful to alleviate fears of AirTags location tracking.
Apple keeps updating several safety features, including an alert that allows iPhone users to know if an AirTag that doesn’t belong to them is following them. However, Apple has no such protection for Android users before introducing the Tracker Detect app. As per an Apple Support document on a feature, if the app detects an Airtag or finds My supported item tracker for at a minimum of 10 minutes, a sound can be used to locate it. After conducting a scan, the app will reveal any nearby AirTags.
