It's a gratifying turn of events during Oscar Week, when Hollywood is preoccupied with the big night, with one of the worst things Brad Pitt has ever done since earning his Academy Award. We can only hope that the academy is returning to a steely-eyed pit (with flowing golden locks and a slight tan) in “The Lost City” to save Sandra Block from a wheelbarrow while avoiding death.  LOST CITY AFDAH

Maybe he'll be able to catch the opening act. The star-studded retro action-comedy cooks quickly, then the Temple of Doom comes to mind.

“The Lost City” ( 4 out of 4; rated PG-13; in cinemas Friday) was directed by Aaron and Adam Knee (“Band of Robbers”) and starred Block as Loretta Sage, who died. Her archaeologist spouse has since lost interest in writing a highly lucrative romance-adventure franchise.

Sandra Block had to ask co-star Brad Pitt for the ‘fourth day for free' in ‘The Lost City.'

The literary series has also been a hit because of the lovely and somewhat medium Allen (Channing Tatum), the shirt-ripping cover model that Loretta's followers adore. Loretta and Alan, her publisher, are embarking on a book tour in support of her latest novel, “The Lost City of D,” which she views as the final song for the daring heroine Lovemore and her boyfriend/partner Dash (Da Vin Joy Randolph). And they assembled. Where it is obvious that he has invested far more than Loretta.

Loretta, on the other hand, is highly wise when it comes to ancient history, and the rich megalomaniac Abigail Fairfax (Daniel Radcliffe) kidnaps her because she believes she is interpreting cuneiform and accessing the forgotten Atlantic city above. That is the secret to locating a legendary crown.

‘I can't edit myself,' says Channing Tatum, director of ‘Dog,' ‘Magic Mike 3', and ‘Magic Mike 4'.

A rescue effort led by new-agency special-ops genius Jack Trainer (Pitt) includes a beefy but sensitive Allen as Loretta's savior, as well as a variety of mishaps to uncover the hero's riches. Navigate the site. We can't assist you if you can't enjoy the block by picking lychees off Tatum's naked buttocks while dressed in a jungle-ready jumpsuit.

Between the block and the Tatum crackles, there's a lot of idiocy, double entender flies, and energy – at first. But, after a time, “Lost City” loses its easy edge, the side storyline slows down, Pitt is unquestionably the film's finest special, and both the adventurous and romantic perspectives become engulfed by the prophecy.

Even Radcliffe, the erstwhile Harry Potter who gets a genuinely Nifty villainous start, is a one-dimensional Fairfax, a peculiar modern Belok from “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” And nowhere near Loretta's intoxicated and agile social media manager, played by Patty Harrison of “Together Together.”

In a bizarre way, the picture, like Tatum's character, doesn't grasp how fantastic it can be. Viewers get a taste of Lovemore and Dash at Panne and Loretta's head, but this is a missed opportunity. Furthermore, a much more mature, R-rated version of “Lost City” will work – and will seem less like an Indiana Jones / “Romance of the Three Kingdoms” clone. At the very least, how about something more adult than repeatedly repeating the term “throb”?

“The Lost City” isn't a horrible film, but it's ludicrous for people attempting to avoid Gonzo with A-listers. You simply want to be more selective in the assistance you provide to others.
