The Real Hawaiian Wood Fired Pizza is a tasty and authentic pizza made from traditional methods and ingredients. It’s a great way to enjoy a meal on a budget!

Origins of Hawaiian pizza

Although Hawaiian pizza is an American and Canadian creation, it is not actually Hawaiian in origin. It was created by a Greek immigrant in Canada, Sam Panopoulos. He was running a restaurant in Chatham, Ontario at the time.

Sam Panopoulos was looking for a new menu item. The idea of using pineapple on a pizza sounded interesting. Having tasted canned pineapple in his native Greece, he thought it would be good on pizza.

When he tried it out, he discovered that it was a hit. So, he started selling it. In 1962, he named it the Hawaiian Pizza.

Many people believe that the first Hawaiian pizza was invented in Hawaii. However, the original Hawaiian pizza was created by Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cultures.

As the pizza spread across the globe, the pizzaiolos began to be more creative. They experimented with new toppings, including bacon. And in 1996, Kraft refined the identity of the pizza.

Some say that the earliest known instance of a pineapple-topped pizza is a pineapple and ham pizza, made by Clemens Wilmenrod. However, that does not make it a Hawaiian pizza.

The earliest known photograph of a pineapple pizza is a picture taken in the early 1950s. It shows a pizza being baked in a mud brick oven.

The next recorded instance is from Satellite Restaurant in Chatham, Ontario. This pizza was served for a few years during the mid-60s.

Ohana Pizza’s first public event

The Real Hawaiian Wood Fired Pizza’s first public event will take place on Saturday, October 7, 2016, at the Rock the Riverfront-Charity Classic. This pizza connoisseur’s celebration will feature a slew of ‘oh-so-good’ Hawaiian style pizzas and more.

Ohana Pizza is owned by a duo of Wisconsinites: Brandon Balts and Jenni Balts. It started off as a food truck and eventually moved into a brick and mortar restaurant in Lahaina.

The company’s menu features the aforementioned “mimosa” style pizzas, as well as a couple of other pizza-centric offerings. One is a cheesy version of the Hawaiian pie, a Hawaiian style pizza featuring BBQ chicken, pepperoni, and shaved parmesan.

The new restaurant will also boast a craft beer bar, where visitors will be able to sample a slew of unique and exotic ales from all over the world. In addition to the brewery’s signature IPAs and lagers, the menu will feature non-alcoholic cocktails and small plates.

For those who don’t have the patience to wait for their pizza to bake, the company also offers a mobile woodfired oven that travels Maui and the islands with ono pizzas. That’s not to mention a tasty slew of pizza-centric appetizers.

Besides the aforementioned beer and beer infused cocktails, the bar will also serve up a selection of non-alcoholic gin and tonics. However, the real star of the show is the menu itself. From deep fried portobello mushrooms to a nutty, salty-sweet cauliflower florets encased in Parmesan, there’s something for everyone.

Aloha Pizza’s third shelve area

The Real Hawaiian Wood Fired Pizza’s latest incarnation will troll the tricounty roadways with a healthy dose of aloha and no ego in tow. In addition to the best in class brunch, dinner and dessert options, they’ll be making a splash on the sands with an impressively rounded out beverage selection. As one of the only taverns in the city, this is a welcome addition to the burgeoning gastronomic community. For all those looking for a swagged up meal, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better bet.

Not that you need an excuse to grab a savori after work. They’ll be churning out a plethora of tasty eats and brews all afternoon long. With the best happy hours in the business, it’s no wonder they’ve snagged the title of the best tavern in town. So, when you’re ready to sample the sexiest food on the go, make your way over to 25 North Main.
