The trailer gives sneak peeks into Aaron Sorkin’s vision of a protest drama. The film, already speculated to be award-worthy, features some stellar names. It will arrive on Netflix on October the 16th.
Netflix is leaving no stone unturned to storm Oscars 2021 with likes of Mank, Hillbilly Elegy, and The Boys in the Band expected to arrive soon on the streaming giant’s platform. It also has bought the rights of other considerate, which have come out of festivals which include “Pieces of Woman,” “Malcolm & Marie,” and “Bruised.”
And now, it has unveiled a new probable contender, “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” directed by Aaron Sorkin during a recently concluded Sunday Night Football game.
The film has the unfathomable quality of artists on the field, which include the names of “The Spy” actor Sacha Baron Cohen, Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne, “Watchmen” star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Frank Langella, Jeremy Strong, and Project Power actor Joseph Gordon Levitt. The film tells the tale of the peaceful protest outside the 1968 Democratic Convention and how it turned into a deadly tussle with the police and the National Guard.
The film will relay how the organizers of the protest, who are the characters played by Cohen, Redmayne, Strong, and Abdul-Mateen, get incarcerated facing the charges of conspiracy to instigate a riot and how the trial that followed has been considered one of the most notorious in history.
The film by Aaron Sorkin had been in development for a long time, and Netflix, fans, and cast are all happy that it is finally set to arrive in October. The production rumors started around a decade ago with Steven Spielberg, or Paul Greengrass speculated to helm the direction.
The extraordinary men involved in the cast are supported by Mark Rylance, John Carrol Lynch, Ben Shenkman, Kelvin Harrison Jr., and Danny Flaherty.
The film’s timing couldn’t have been more impeccable as it arrives days before the election day, which is scheduled on November the 3rd.
Netflix ever overlooks no good content, and most of them always go to their streaming service. This time around, the streaming giant had bought Paramount’s rights, the agreement which ensued after the outflux of $56 million from Netflix’s side.
According to a Vanity Fair report, lead actor Sacha Baron Cohen was all praise for the film as he compared Aaron Sorkin to Shakespeare and was even more consistent than the iconic writer.
Jeremy Strong, who is now garnering admiration for his role in hit HBO series Succession, has also earned some strong praise from the production team. According to the reports, which also include words from the director Aaron Sorkin, Strong had been a die-hard method actor, but he took it to the extremes with “Trial of the Chicago 7” riot scenes as he irrevocably demanded a riot-like atmosphere for himself and requested the director that he must be thrown to the ground in each take by an ex-cop who was a stormtrooper in the film.
The film will debut on Netflix on October the 16th.
