To recover the loot, you'll have to get back to the body of your dead and grab D2R Items. Luckily, if you do pass away before you can retrieve your corpse, you'll just fall dead again; this isn't the case when you only have one chance to recover your equipment back. Among the items available from the NPC Akara (your very first quest giver) are two tomes with one that is for Scrolls of Town Portal, and another for Scrolls of Identify. These scrolls are highly useful, as the former let you explore town in a short time and then return to action in the next, while the latter show secrets about objects buy diablo II resurrected items (which should be completed before they can be equipped).
