Classification of Skin Types

Based on the three doshas, skins are classified into Vatha skin, Pitha skin, and Kafa skins. 

Vatha Skin

Vatha skin is rough and flaky because is cool and dry. It can be very wrinkly if left untreated and could lead to conditions like dermatitis and eczema. Extreme dry weather conditions are very unfavorable for Vatha skin condition. 

Sufficient water intake, natural moisturizers, and a good diet can always help in this condition.

Pitha Skin

Pitha skin is warm and of reddish appearance due to the dominance of element fire. Extreme hot weather conditions can be quite unfavorable for people with Pitha skin. Such a climate can cause inflammation and rashes. The acne problem will be prominent. Make sure that mild skincare products are used because Pitha skin is known to be very sensitive. 

Kafa skin

Kafa skin is pale, thick, and oily, Clogged pores causing acne and bacteria infection can be expected of this skin type. It needs regular detoxing and cleaning even it gives a sensation of healthier skin when compared to Vatha and Pitha skins.

Classification of Hair Types

There are different types of hairs and each needs a different approach in treatment. We need to determine the dominant dosha first before trying any treatment on the hair. 

Vatha Hair

Elements of air and space are dominant in the case of Vatha hair. Lightness and movement, dryness, and coldness are peculiar characteristics in this classification. Dandruff and hair fall is common in this case.

Pitha Hair

Thickness, strength, and medium-density are the main characteristics of hair with Pitha dosha dominance. In the case of Pitha hair, the oily scalp can pave the way to boils and dandruff. 

Kafa Hair

Coolness and heaviness with a sleek and smooth nature are often the characteristics of Kafa hair.  The hair and scalp will be well moisturized and have an elegant texture. 


Brahmi, Bhringaraj, Triphala are effective ingredients in hair care treatment.
