Create an inbound server policy to allow your on-premises DNS client or server to send DNS requests to cloud DNS. A DNS client or server can resolve records according to the name resolution order of your VPC network.

On-premises clients can resolve records in private, transport, and peering zones that are allowed for VPC networks. On-premises clients use CloudVPN or Cloud Interconnect to connect to your VPC network.

Outbound-

You can configure the VMs in your VPC network as follows:

Sends a DNS request to the DNS name server of your choice. Name servers can be located on the same VPC network, on-premises network, or on the Internet.

Resolves records hosted on a name server configured as a forwarding target for a forwarding zone that is allowed to be used in a VPC network. For information about how Google Cloud routes traffic to the forwarding target's IP address, see Forwarding Targets and Routing Methods.

Create an outbound server policy for your VPC network to send all DNS requests to the alternate name server. Alternate name servers prevent VMs in your VPC network from resolving records in cloud DNS private zones, forwarding zones, or peering zones. For more information, see Name resolution order.
