Slip masterbatches reduce a film's resistance to sliding itself or the parts of converting equipment. The common slip agents for polyolefins are long-chain fatty acid amides from oleyl through erucyl. They are effective due to their natural tendency to “bloom” to the film's surfaces after extrusion.

  1. The migration of slip agents usually takes time, and the CFO might not be obtained until 7-10 days after extrusion – which depends on the amide used. Usually, most CFO reductions can occur within 24-48 hours.
  2. Slip masterbatches must be tailored to the process and the desired end properties by the processor. In a few cases, an olamide with a quick surface is required, while a slower-blooming amide is indicated in other cases.
  3. High levels of slip additives can cause problems related to the surface treatment of the films and interfere with sealability and printability.
  4. The correct amount of slip agent should be reduced as the thickness of the film increases to maintain the COF.
  5. Small amounts of Slip Additive Masterbatches enhance the film's ” hand ” and even aid in processability.
  6. Slip masterbatches are also effective for enhancing mould release properties in moulding processes.

Kandui's Premium Slip Masterbatches

Kandui offers both slow and fast Slip Masterbatches from AddKan.

The slow slip masterbatches are perfectly balanced on pure versions of erucamide. The films manufactured using slow slip additives are printed offline, where the average level starts between 1 and 3%, depending upon the COF reduction.

The films made using fast slip masterbatches need to get printed right after they are created. Making them later easily hinders the adhesion quality of the laminated films or printing inks. The average level is 1-3%.

Kandui makes a wide variety of slip masterbatches designed to fit various needs related to bloom rate and base resin requirements.
