NTA UGC NET 2022 Exam Overview

The National The National Eligibility Test (NET) commonly referred to as UGC NET or NTA UGC NET Exam, started in the year 1989-90, is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC) for 81 different subjects. 

First, let me start by introducing the organisation. 

UGC (University Grants Commission) was established in 1956 as a statutory body by the Indian Government. Its objectives were to coordinate, determine and maintain the standards of higher education. 

While, NTA (an Indian Government Agency) was established in November 2017 to conduct entrance examinations for institutes of higher education, nationwide. 

The NTA NET exam was earlier conducted by the CBSE but from December 2018 onwards it is being conducted by the NTA. It is conducted typically twice a year (June & December Cycles) and more than 5 lakh students appear for the exam each cycle. 

The exam’s purpose is basically to determine whether you are eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor (AP) &/or receive the Junior Research Fellowship award (JRF). 

Now, to talk a little about the JRF. It is a letter awarded to those candidates that have secured marks greater/equal to the JRF cut-offs in their NTA NET for their respective subjects. The JRF letter is basically a bearer document through which you’ll be able to avail a scholarship while pursuing your M.Phil./Ph.D. 

With the introduction over, let’s quickly delve into the when and what of UGC NET 2022. The UGC NET 2021 took a major hit in its schedule, owing to the difficult pandemic situation. However, with normalcy restoring at a fine pace, the UGC NET 2022 exam process is likely to go smoothly. 

Although not as smoothly as it was expected. The UGC NET Notification 2022, which was released on April 30, 2022, had declared that the December 2021 and June 2022 exam processes will be combined.

NTA UGC NET Notification 2022

The UGC NET Notification 2022 was released on April 30, 2022. The form filling process was started on the same day and was scheduled to end on 20th May 2022. However, a further notification notified the extension of the last date.

In respect to that, the application form window closed on 30th May 2022.

Reminiscent of last year this year as well the December 2021 and June 2022 cycles will be merged. And although the information regarding the official dates is still pending from UGC’s side, the exam will likely take place during the last week of June or first week of July 2022.

While I’ve briefed you with the basic information, now take a careful look at the Detailed Notification of UGC NET 2022, to learn more about the exam aspects.

Now, Remember, such notifications, like the one in the 3rd paragraph, are extremely detailed and are usually 70-80 pages long. Therefore, in this blog and my other UGC NET blogs, I have simplified all the information given in such notifications and conveyed the same in a clear and concise manner.

In continuation to the detailed notification, link mentioned above, a UGC NET Public Notice came out stating the information on the exam dates, syllabus, Application fee, etc.

You should note that following the closing of the registration process, on 31st May 2022, the form correction window opened.

Earlier the correction process was scheduled to take place from 21st May 2022 to 23rd May, but upon extension of the last date of application form, it went from 31st May 2022 till 1st June 2022.

NTA UGC NET Exam Dates

The “UGC NET Exam dates” is the most sought-after information by UGC NET aspirants. This perhaps solidifies the reason why the National Testing Agency (NTA) does not give premature details about the NTA NET exam dates, i.e., keeps it reserved and disseminates it in a separate notice after the release of the official notification only.

Since the official notification of UGC NET 2022 is now out, soon the information regarding the UGC NET Exam Dates will also be released. Although, it is expected that the exam will take place during the first/second week of June.

However, breaking from the stereotypes, when it comes to the UGC NET Exam Date 2022, there is a major update available. The exam will now be known as the UGC NET December 2021 and June 2022 merged cycle. And will likely take place during the last week of June or 1st week of July 2022.

While the final dates will be known in due course, until then take idea about the duration of the exam from the dates of the previous cycle.

• First Shift: 09:00 am – 12:00 pm
• Second Shift: 03:00 pm – 06:00 pm

Note: Reach the examination hall at least 30 minutes before the start of the exam.
