Rabbits have various communication methods to get the attention of their owners and other rabbits.

Teeth grinding/purring

When you pet them, rabbits sometimes express their happiness with the habit of grinding teeth.  This habit is your rabbit purring.  Grinding teeth could also indicate pain or discomfort.  Grinding because of pain typically happens more often and is louder than contentment grinding.  You can tell which is which by observing your rabbit’s other behavior together with teeth grinding.  Rabbits that have their feet outstretched and are lying down seemingly relaxed that grind teeth are likely content.  However, a tense and hunched rabbit who shows aggression and disinterest in eating or moving is likely grinding teeth because of pain.

Kicking up dirt

Rabbits feeling displeased might kick up their feet deliberately as they start hopping away.  In their natural habitats, they do these actions because they kick up dirt onto the face of another animal.  Expect your pet rabbit to do this behavior after you trim your pet’s nails.

A sudden change in your pet’s behavior should warrant a visit to your pet clinic Aurora, CO. Visit their website to know more about their services.
