The movie theatres of the United States will probably close again. When the global pandemic coronavirus spread worldwide, all the countries’ theatre halls were shut down to slow the spreading of COVID-19. Everyone’s life is affected due to the situation, though the industry is hit particularly hard in 2020. It has been estimated that the theatre will lose around $31 billion this year. The estimation explains why exhibitors wanted to open the theatres as soon as possible.

A few months back, the theatres have reopened globally (except in a few countries) with new safety and health protocols. The safety protocols included limited audiences, fewer screenings, and frequent cleaning auditorium between showtimes. Also, audiences feel unsafe and worried about going to theatres during this pandemic, which directly affects the box office numbers. Health experts advise people to avoid social contacting and suggest staying away from public places, especially from theaters. On the other hand, Dr. Anthony Fauci shared that it will not be safe for the people until the vaccine is available; and before then, everyone can get infected. Due to the hard situation, many movies scheduled to release in the coming months were delayed. The upcoming and most awaited release of Wonder Woman 1984 is pushed back till Christmas. And Black Widow is possibly getting postponed again.

Christopher Nolan’s Tenet has to suffer a lot due to the pandemic. It has to undergo multiple delays. The movie was initially scheduled to release in April, then it was postponed three times, May, June, July, and finally released in August. The film saved the theatres from the financial crisis, but the famous Nolan’s movie’s performance was not what the producers and distributors expected. Christopher Nolan is one of the most reputed directors in Hollywood, and his films are some amazing mind twisters that grab considerable audiences’ attention. Tenet collected over $200 million worldwide and collected only $29.5 million domestically in two weeks. The poor performances of such a big movie are very unfortunate. Despite the biggest opening after months, the film did not succeed in bringing audiences to the theatres. And Warner Bros. Picture could lose an amount of $200 million investment in the film. Tenet needs to collect $500 million to break even the cost of production. However, the numbers seem very unlikely even to touch the nearest number. Hence, other production teams are rescheduling their release date to avoid the loss because if the audience can say no to Nolan, it would be wise to reconsider the theatre release. I hope this article was informative for you.
