Winter is fast approaching, and so is vacation time. After a long period of staying indoors owing to the pandemic, we can all finally think of planning holidays with our family. While packing for yourself is not that big a task, doing so for your child can quickly become one. The priority is to be organised and have enough items to save you in case of an unexpected crisis or when you have no access to laundry.

Packing kids' wear according to the location and the type of holiday is also equally important.  With some foresight and a handy checklist, packing can be easy, breezy, and tiresome. If your children are old enough, including them instils a feeling of responsibility and teamwork and might even quicken the entire process. Here are some essential tips and items that should be on your vacation list:

Packing for tropical weather

Thankfully, you should visit a location where they dry quickly, even if you need to hand wash a couple of items. Keep two pairs of bottoms and four pairs of t-shirts or tops that can be mixed and matched with each other. Boys' clothes can include shorts and pants, while for girls you can also have a dress or two.

Swimwear

Always keep a pair of swimsuits or trunks with you, even if you do not intend to take a dip anywhere. Plus, these items can always be helpful if you ever need to layer up or need a quick change (while on the move) after a bathroom break goes wrong.

Socks and underwear

You can never have too many socks or underwear. The latter becomes an essential item in your kid's suitcase with little ones still in the potty-training stage. With socks, whether you are an adult or a child, you know that they always go missing.

Pyjamas

Decide how many pyjamas you want to take depending on the days you would be away from home. Your kid spends the least time in sleepwear, so keep the number on the lower end. This also makes more space for other items in the suitcase.

Shoes

They take up much space in the suitcase, so keeping an additional emergency pair is a good idea. If you are going to a beach, carry chappals, or sliders.

Prioritise comfort over dressiness

Unless you have a formal occasion to attend on vacations, carrying comfortable garments for travelling and allowing movement is ideal. For girls' clothing and for boys, you can carry cotton pants, sweatpants or joggers with matching or contrasting tops.
