Vasantha Vivek is an Ex. Professor, Blogger, Published Author, and Mindfulness Practitioner for the last six years living in Southern Tamilnadu, India. She is sharing her mindfulness, parenting, and blogging journey @ “My Sweet Nothings” blog from 2014. Her blog series ” 7 Everyday Practices For Busy Moms” was a mega-hit. She proudly claims mindfulness has helped her to get out of self-denial, anxiety, and anger. Currently, she's a Certified Mindfulness Based Life Coach offering mindfulness, and meditation guidance and helping in transforming stressful souls to blissful souls!”

Can you tell our readers about yourself and your blog?

I was a professor in an engineering college for 17 years. My eye sight issues and my retina displacement surgery forced me to leave my most passionate job of teaching. So to beat my boredom, I started my blog “My Sweet Nothings” in the year 2014. The post surgery period for me was so traumatic. I was caught up with anxiety, depression and loneliness. So I started exploring mindfulness through my blog from 2017. I have written a series on mindfulness “A To Z On Mindfulness”, an all time hit series. During Covid, I got citified as a Mindfulness Coach from Happiitude Global. During April, I got certified as a Life Coach from Puja Puneet's Life By Design Academy.

Describe how you first get into blogging?

As I mentioned earlier, I started my blog as a hobby to beat my boredom. I did everything – designing, content creation, SEO all my myself. I usually enjoy writing and my love to connect with people made blogging a good pass time for me initially. Later I enjoyed blogging very much that I couldn't remain calm without blogging even a single day.

How would you describe your blogging style?

My blogging style is heart to heart kind of writing. I speak the truth straight from my heart to my reader's heart. I also include fun, laughter, my life experiences, my challenges and practical life hacks in my blogs. Mainly I blog about Mindfulness, parenting & Blogging.

What type of networking do you think is better to enhance your traffic to the blog?

Collaborations, Joint Ventures, Blog Hops, Guest Post, Sponsored Post, Blogger Interview, Contests & Giveaways are the most advantageous form of networking to enhance our blog traffic.

What do you think is the best service a blogger can provide to their readers?

Transfer of knowledge and experience, challenging their beliefs, keeping them engaged, making reading interesting and providing them a breakthrough.

How do you manage time to run your blog efficiently?

I am a productivity geek. I write my “To Do” list everyday. I prioritize and balance my blog – life activities. I use “Time Blocking” & “Pomodoro Technique” to be more productive.

How do you want to improve yourself in the next year?

At present, I am blogging very less because of my coaching business. So i would love to blog more in the coming year.

What was your greatest failure and what did you learn from that?

Initially, I was scared to make big investments for my blog. And the highest price I Paid for that big mistake was that my blog was hacked once. Then I learnt the lesson of investing for privacy and security.

Tell me about your proudest achievement?

My proudest achievements are: 1. Interviewed nearly 40 moms in my “This Mom's Life” series 2. Interviewed nearly 25 bloggers in my “Chill Chat With Cool Bloggers” series 2. Coauthored an anthology “Your Are Done Expecting”.

Who has impacted you most in blogging and how?

I have a great chance to connect with more beautiful souls through my blog. Also I got many friends from this blogging world. And blogging made me a LLL – Life Long Lerner.

What is your greatest achievement outside of blogging?

My own transformation from stress to bliss. Pivoting from an engineering field to mindfulness and life coaching after 17 years as a professor. Helping women to beat their self pity, anxiety and loneliness through my coaching services.

What do you do in your spare time?

I am practicing as a Certified Mindfulness Based Life Coach. And I keep myself updated by enrolling to various courses and sessions. Currently I am into writing my debt book.

Where would you like to be in blogging five years from now?

To be a number one blog for women about mindfulness and life coaching.

What was the most challenging moment in your blogging journey so far?

Honestly nothing. I took every challenge as an opportunity for my personal growth and transformation.

Can you name some of your favorite bloggers and explain why they are your favorites?

I love many bloggers for their unique style of writing and thoght process. So the list is endless.

How do you motivate yourself to keep the blog up and running?

I read many motivational articles, watch many interesting videos. And I always carry a small notebook with me to record my thoughts whenever I feel creative. I love reading and people watching for my daily inspiration.

What do you find the most frustrating aspect of blogging?

I think being consistent is the most essential part of blogging.

What is the biggest difference in your life post-blogging?

My perspectives about various things has widened, got a clarity over my life, found my passion and business.

Did you have any professional help or did you create the blog yourself?

I am doing everything by myself. I am a One Woman Army when considering blogging.

How active are you on a weekly basis? How often do you communicate with your followers?

I try to publish one post every 15 days. Also I send monthly newsletter to my mail list subscribers.

How much time do you spend blogging?

Weekly ten hours.

What do you think is the best social media strategy for getting more visitors to a blog?

Content is the queen. Quality over quantity. When you provide quality content, then you can attract more readers.

Would you encourage other people to make their blog?

Sure. Already I am helping my family and friends to start their own blog.

Is blogging your profession or just a hobby?

Both.

A lot of people think that blogging is an easy way to make money online. Do you have some tips for those people who are interested in making money from the blog?

  1. Write consistently
  2. Repurpose old content
  3. Network with fellow bloggers
  4. Do affiliate marketing, paid and sponsored posts
  5. Build your email list right from the beginning
