The year 2020 was not a good year for Wear OS, but there are plenty of great updates on Wear OS that can be seen this year. Smartwatches are getting popular day by day and many companies have already launched plenty of high-end wearables that function fantastically. We have a variety of options for smartwatches or fitness trackers to choose from right now, but today we will look at what Google’s Wear OS can offer us in the year 2021 and how its performance was in the year 2020. So let’s get started.

Before we move to our main topic, let’s take a look at all the Wear OS devices launched in the year 2020. Here they are:

Sunnto 7: Best for fitness tracking.

Skagen Falster 3: Offers you a great design along with robust hardware.

Diesel Fadelite: It doesn’t offer outstanding performance, but it’s a hot-looking Wear OS.

Tory Burch ToryTrack: One of the best-looking smartwatches for women.

Montblanc Summit 2 Plus: It’s a very decent LTE-connected luxury Wear OS smartwatch.

Tag Heuer Connected: Great Wear OS watch to wear in business meetings as well as at the gym.

Oppo Watch: It offers you decent design and features.

Mobvoi TicWatch 3 Pro: It runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4100 chipset and features GPS as well as LTE.

Hublot Big Bang E: One of the most affordable smartwatches you can get now.

Fossil Gen 5E: Another very affordable smartwatch available in multiple sizes.

Citizen CZ Smart: It’s quite an expensive Wear OS watch and it doesn’t even offer the specs to match its price.

Software Updates in 2020

We didn’t get many updates of Wear OS in the year 2020. There was a small update in April 2020, when they added a hand-washing reminder to the clock app. But we saw a big update in September 2021, when Qualcomm launched its Snapdragon 4100 chipset. This processor significantly improved the speed in-app loading time and pairing. It also added a new weather widget along with a Bonafide hand-washing timer. Well, it would have been better if they had offered us more updates. However, we can expect a few decent updates this year as Qualcomm has already launched Snapdragon 4100 and Snapdragon 4100 Plus chipsets that are undoubtedly very powerful to power the next generation Wear OS wearables.

Wear OS in 2021

This year we can expect smartwatch manufacturers to focus on making improved Wear OS watches. We can expect to see some new and advanced features as well, and most importantly, we can even expect to get more software updates this year compared to the year 2020.

As I shared, 2020 was not a great year for watch OS, but this year is probably going to be an excellent year for it.
