It's easy to think that heartworms are an old-fashioned disease. We don't hear as much about them, and they're not as common as they used to be. But did you know that heartworms are still a problem in dogs today? And that it's still important for dog owners to know what the first signs of heartworms are.

So here's what you need to know.

The first signs of heartworms in dogs include coughing, shortness of breath, and fainting spells. You might also see your dog dragging his or her hind legs when walking—this is because the worms can put pressure on the spinal cord and cause paralysis.

Other symptoms include fever, lethargy, weight loss, vomiting, and diarrhoea.

If your dog shows any of these symptoms, take him or her to the vet immediately!

Please feel free to call us, your local vet clinic Cornelius, NC if you need more information or wish to schedule a checkup for your dog.
