Developed by Eric Kripke, The Boys is a superhero series that was first premiered in 2019. The first season was received well by the viewers, so a second season soon followed in 2020 and now Amazon has renewed it for another one. The Boys is set in a world where people with superpowers work for a corporation called Vought International. They are referred to as heroes by society; however, most of them are quite arrogant and corrupt. Now, the show mainly focuses on two groups – The Seven and The Boys. The latter group tries to expose the corrupt superheroes so that they can bring down Vought.

The violent and narcissistic Homelander leads the Seven while The Boys are led by Bill Butcher. Bill believes that Homelander has something to do with the disappearance of his wife, which leads to the initial conflict between the Seven and the Boys in season 1 of the show. In the meantime, Homelander is seeking government support for the superheroes, but Bill has decided that he will spoil their plans by exposing the secrets of Vought. The conflict, however, is muddled by the romantic relationship of Hughie and Annie who are initially unaware of each other’s affiliations.

Even though they are wanted by the government, The Boys continue to do everything possible to defeat the Vought in the second season. However, soon Butcher gets to know that his wife has been kept captive by Homelander, which gives their conflict an unexpected twist. While he attempts to get his wife back, Stormfront asks the Seven to help Homelander lead them to world domination, so that they can do as they please. The season 2 did cover several storylines including Becca’s attempt to save her son, Starlight’s attempt to bring down Vought and Stormfront secret, fans knew that this was not the end. Everyone knew that Amazon had renewed the deal for another season, so the only thing now fans thought of was what will happen next. Those who have watched The Boys know that it is impossible to predict with certainty what we might see in the next season. The show remains quite unpredictable even after two seasons.

Most of the Boys went their ways at the end of Season 2. Mother’s Milk goes back to his family while Hughie seeks to bring down Vought through legitimate means by joining a Congresswoman’s office. Butcher tries to deal with the death of his wife and make sense of what has happened while Kimiko and Frenchie go for an adventure. But since the show is titled The Boys, we can expect them to come back together soon. For now, they are divided with each following his instinct.

The death of Translucent made room for the arrival of Stormfront. After being badly injured by Homelander’s son and being exposed as a Nazi, she is probably not going to the part of the team. Since we know Black Noir is also comatose, and The Deep has not been accepted back into the Seven, it means there is room for new heroes in the team. It won’t be wrong to hope that we might see some new faces on the team. Who would join up next is not yet known and we will have to wait for season 3 for that.

Understanding what Hughie and Starlight have been through in the first two seasons the fans will also be expecting that they will have some happiness as well. The world of The Boys is a bit weird, and every person seems like a marketing opportunity while every relationship is seen as a transaction. We would love to imagine that at least for time, these two beloved characters have some time just being themselves.

Jensen Ackles the supernatural star is all set to join The Boys in the upcoming season as Soldier Boy. However, no one knows for certain as of now if he is going to be around for a few episodes or we might see him for the entirety of season 3. However, since everyone is aware of his relationship with Eric Kripke, it seems logical that we might see him for more than just a few episodes. The return of Soldier Boy also makes sense since the Seven and Vought are struggling, and there is much turmoil.

The season two of the show was focused on Becca. We saw Billy Butcher trying to find her and finally seeing her only to realize where she had been all this time. After his son is sent into CIA custody and her death, he needs to have a new arc to help him get a new perspective so that he can be back to his old self. However, it would be interesting to see how Billy might now handle his relationship with Ryan. It can be a good storyline that creators can work on so that we finally can see his character beyond the Homelander vendetta. Even though he is not an emotional character, his relationship with Ryan can help explore how he used to be like before his wife was taken away from him and raped.

Whatever little we know of him, it is safe to assume that he carries a lot of personal scars and regrets, which would be interesting to watch in season 3. With the current healthcare crisis, we know season 3 won’t be coming any time soon. But at least we can hope that in the next season we finally see a new approach to the show, from a completely refreshing perspective.
