The size of a communication screen is one of the first topics discussed to establish a choice. Indeed, this will not only impact the price, but also the technique that will be preferable to use.

Moreover, depending on the technology chosen, the notion of size will not always be evoked in the same way, inches on one side, square meters on the other. It can be difficult to find your way around. Finally, the notion of size beyond the visual effect generated will be closely linked to the notion of maximum visibility distance.

This is why the choice of the size of a communication screen is not insignificant and must be considered.

THE INFLUENCE OF SCREEN SIZE ON THE TECHNOLOGY USED

Defining the size of a screen is not without consequences. It may also seem obvious that this will have an impact on the price. Indeed, with equal technical characteristics, the larger a screen, the more expensive it will be.

However, in reality, this is not entirely accurate. Indeed, the size will also be correlated with other technical characteristics which also modulate the final price of the screen. There is however one point that remains decisive which will depend on the size of the screen, it is the technology used. Indeed, as mentioned in our article on the types of screens, the operation between an LCD monitor and an LED screen is different.

The first works by backlighting with several layers that polarize the light.  SMD Screens are then dependent on the broadcast panel and will therefore be limited in size.  The largest models reach 248 cm diagonally.

Conversely, LED screens are made up of LED modules that add to each other to form the screen. They are therefore not limited in size. However, they are dependent on the size of the LEDs and the space between them, this is the pitch. They are generally less suitable for offering ultra-fine resolutions.

This is possible, but with a consequent impact on the price of the screen per square meter. This is why in general, LED screens are very little used for small surfaces. They are rarely found for solutions smaller than 2 m².

EASUREMENT OF A SCREEN, INCHES, OR SQUARE METERS?

When a user looks at a screen, they may find themselves faced with several size-related metrics. Daily, we mainly find dimensions in inches which represent the diagonal of the screen. For the communication screens, the formats being able to be different, one can deal with other measurements.

If the inches are widely used for the LCD, this measurement system is not always easy to represent in space. The main thing to remember is that on these screens the measurement evokes the diagonal of the screen and that 1 inch is equal to 2.54 centimeters.

However, two 43-inch screens will not necessarily be the same depending on the height-to-width ratio applied. There are many conversion tables for dimensions in inches with height width dimensions depending on the screen ratio (16:9, 4:3, etc.).
