The type of girder used in an overhead crane should be determined by the application and the building envelope rather than by pricing. Even though that EOT single girder cranes are less expensive than EOT double girder cranes, each is the ideal equipment for the job.
EOT CRANE SINGLE GIRDER
EOT Single girder cranes are ideal for mild to moderate workload applications such as manufacturing and maintenance. EOT Single Girder Cranes feature a single girder attached to the crane's end trucks, which operate on a runway rail that spans the length of the structure.
The hoist is underrunning with single girder cranes, with the cross travel trolley commonly running on the bridge girder's lower flange. With bridge girder construction of broad flange beams under 65′ span and manufactured single box girder beyond 65′ span, single girder cranes are normally restricted to 20 tonne capacity.
Because the hoist is below the girder, single girder cranes often require less space from the top of the runway beam to the lowest obstacle of the structure. Many old structures have runways constructed at a high point inside the structure, restricting the amount of accessible clearance for EOT single girder cranes. If the duty requirement is mild to heavy and the application is basic manufacturing or maintenance, a EOT single girder crane should sufficient.
EOT CRANE DOUBLE GIRDER
Larger capacity, greater duty cycles, and longer bridge spans are all advantages of EOT double girder cranes. EOT Double girder cranes feature two girders linked to the crane's end trucks, which drive on a runway rail that spans the length of the structure. The hoist on twin girder cranes runs on rails located on the tops of the girders, and the hoist spans the gauge of the two girders.
Because the hoisting mechanism sits on top of the girders rather than below, double girder cranes are often employed for greater weights, longer bridge spans, and improved hook height. A twin girder crane has a capacity of more than 100 tonnes and spans of more than 150 feet.
Because the hoisting equipment runs above the bridge girder, EOT double girder cranes often require extra space from the top of the runway beam to the lowest impediment of the structure. As a result, if a twin girder crane is wanted, there must be at least 4′ of runway clearance to the lowest impediment. Unless the hoist is placed in between the girders, which is often expensive, the clearance requirement over the runway grows with the crane's capacity.
EOT Double girder cranes are ideal for a variety of applications, including heavy manufacturing, coil handling, and load rotation with multiple hoists.
