Eileen Tate was born in England. Emory Tate served in the United States air force as a Sergeant. He was stationed in England with the U.S. air force. Eileen and Emory met there for the first time. Later they moved back to Washington, D.C., USA, and married in 1985.

In 1986, they had their first child, Andrew Tate. Tristan Tate was born in 1988, so he and his wife had been expecting a child for a while. Janine Tate, their third child, and first girl, was born to them in 1992.
