Does your canine companion come when you call him? Or does he just sort of look at you as though wondering why you’re talking to him? If your pooch falls into that latter category, it’s probably a good idea for you to take some time with him and finish his pet cation.
The main reason training is important is simple safety. You need to be able to keep your dog from running off, approaching unsafe areas, running up to people, and/or engaging with aggressive dogs. It’s also very important in terms of your relationship with your pet. You won’t enjoy walking your dog if he is always trying to haul you along!
The most important commands are Sit, Stay, Come, Heel, and Lay Down. Leave it (or Drop It) and Down are also important. Anything beyond that is optional, but your furry buddy should definitely know—and obey—these.
