Like most people I first started playing RuneScape because a lot of my peers played it. The fact that it was browser-based is a large part of the game's lower barrier for entry combined with RuneScape's depth of branching and complexity kept me playing it for a long time and is what I wanted to replicate with Melvor Idle.”
With Malcolm quite open about the inspirations he had it was soon reported to Jagex that an avid fan was developing a game based upon its own MMO. An employee flagged it to management, with the director of management of products Chris Pfeiffer telling us his team was impressed by “how many things had been accomplished and how closely it corresponds closely with RuneScape.”
“The idea behind Melvor Idle is in line with our fundamental values regarding what makes an actual game it was a perfect fit with us” Melvor Idle says. “Furthermore the idea of giving someone from our local community the opportunity to participate has been a hugely exciting experience for everyone in the business.”
