Maui is known as the Valley Isle, where some of the world's beautiful Hana waterfalls are hidden in its dense valleys. Fresh mountain water falls into the pools, and the ideal Hawaii climate makes them even more amazing.

Waterfall on the road to Hana that includes hiking to reach there is a great way to include a little adventure to any holiday, plus it's the best way to see the Hawaiian island of Maui's epic view up close and personal.

Do you want to visit Hana during the forthcoming holiday season? Why not? Christmas and New Year's Eve are the best times to experience Maui differently. How about planning to explore waterfalls on the road to Hana?

Most of Hana's most amazing waterfalls are along the Road to Hana, a winding historical road that extends along Maui's northeast coast. Turn by turn, we will talk about waterfalls, each special in its own way.

Here are 5 Maui waterfalls that we know you're going to love:

Wailua Falls

Wailua Falls are after mile marker 45. You can witness this magnificent Hana waterfall from the road but park away from the bridge on the right-hand side of the turnout area. This beautiful Waterfall is the most famous on the road –it's the most photographed and readily accessible. You can enjoy a refreshing dip in the pool on a hot day.

Note: Be careful stepping down the slippery rocks.

Pua'a Ka'a Falls

At mile marker 22, you will arrive at Pua'a Ka'a State Wayside Park. Bring your lunch or purchase fruit from the famous fruit stands along the way. There is a pleasant picnic spot with benches and toilets. Although you will pass this point at the warmest time of the day, feel free to jump in the pool and cool down under the Hana waterfall.

Upper Waikani Falls

Once you pass mile marker 19, you will see the famous Three Bears waterfalls on the right side. They are easy to locate but harder to reach as you need to park ahead of the road and then walk back.

Note: There is no sidewalk, so be careful while walking on the side of the road. It's a nice waterfall to witness but too shallow to swim.

Honokohau Falls

This stunning Waterfall on the road to Hana is the tallest, but you can't go there on foot. Rather, you have to book the helicopter tour to see Honokohau Falls. Though a helicopter tour is costly, it's a once-in-a-lifetime expedition that allows you special access to some of Hana's most magnificent sights.

Twin Falls

On mile marker 2, you have your first stop. During the high season, there are a lot of cars parked. Twin Falls is the first Hana waterfall on your drive. After a quick walk, you reach the lower falls, where you take a quick cool-down dip. There are more waterfalls on the stream. You should save time for other locations too.

If you plan to visit Maui during the busiest Christmas and New Year time, you'll get many activities and places to check out Maui.
