Covid Vaccine Passports May Help Tourism

The head of Macau\'s government tourism agency (MGTO) said on Tuesday he was exploring further guidance on the so-called vaccination passport program issued by mainland Chinese authorities to make it easier for people to travel outside the mainland border. 바카라사이트 추천

Such a system, referred to by China as an "international travel health certificate," is intended to cover the results of COVID-19 testing and vaccination status of mainland Chinese residents, mainland media reported.

At Tuesday\'s event in Macau, MGTO director Maria Helena de Sena Fernandez was asked by local media about the program announced by China.

She said she believed such "vaccine passports will be a major trend going forward."

The MGTO president added that if a system were "implemented" and "generally recognised," it would "give everyone confidence and revive tourism."

She also said it would be "more helpful in preventing imported cases" of COVID-19.

Macau has included COVID-19 vaccination status on its digital platform for health identification, known locally as the "health code" system, since Tuesday.

Mainland China is currently the only country with most quarantine-free travel bubbles along with Macau. Vaccine programs are in operation in mainland China and Macau, but for now, it still requires arrivals to present a COVID-19 test certificate that is valid for seven days.

Starting Monday, mainland residents were allowed to register for the mainland\'s "Overseas Travel Health Certificate" program via Chinese social media application WeChat. So far, it was not clear from media reports whether any of its overseas jurisdictions had indicated they would recognize such a "vaccination-passage" system.

According to media reports, the certification is available in digital and paper formats.

China\'s foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told the latter\'s regular news conference on Monday that China was ready to discuss with other countries building mechanisms for mutually recognized "health codes" to "facilitate cross-border travel."
