Visit one of these 10 oldest mosques in the world if you want to feel proud and maybe even nostalgic about the glory of Islam around the world. We Muslims want to see those Mosques right now so that we can pray to the all-powerful One God in them. Some of them have been through incredible stories, kingdoms, and wars, but they are still standing as monuments and symbols of Muslims from the past. Our Ramadan Umrah Packages from UK will let you see a few of these gems.
1) Masjid Al Haram
The Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and his son Ismail (peace be upon him) would pray at the Kaaba in Masjid Al Haram, the Great Mosque of Makkah. Also, it is the most holy place for Muslims to go on pilgrimage. Muslims all over the world face the Qiblah direction of the Kaaba five times a day. Since the beginning of time, people have worshipped Allah, the One God, in it. With our packages for umrah from the UK, anyone who lives in the UK can go to this holy place.
2) Al-Masjid An-Nabawi
In Medina, Saudi Arabia, you can go to the Prophet's Mosque, which is called Al-Masjid An-Nabawi. It was built soon after the Prophet (peace be upon him) moved from Makkah to Medina. It is the second holiest place in Islam. Since its small beginnings about 1,400 years ago, this Masjid has grown to become the second-largest building in the world.
3) Al-Aqsa Mosque
The Al-Aqsa Mosque, which was built in Jerusalem in 705, is a holy place for Muslims all over the world. In a Hadith, Al Bukhari says that a prayer said here is the same as a prayer said in the holiest of the four mosques. Also, on the night of the Mirage, our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) prayed there. Also, the Qibla was pointed in this direction for 17 months after people moved to Medina because of a revelation.
Al Aqsa has not been hurt by earthquakes or invasions, and when Saladin took Jerusalem back from the crusaders, he made it look like it did before. All Muslims love this Masjid because it was the first place where Islam was taught.
4) The Great Mosque of Sana'a The Great Mosque of Sana'a, also called Al-Jami al-Kabr bi-an, is in the Yemeni city of Sana'a. It was built right next to the old Ghumdan Palace. The Mosque was built in many stages, and each one shows off the great architecture of the time it was built in. Queen Arwa Ibn Ahmed did a lot of remodelling in 1130, which was very important. The Mosque is also a World Heritage Site, just like the Cathedral.
5) Mosque of Uqba
The Mosque of Uqba is in the Tunisian city of the same name. It is also known as the Great Mosque of Kairouan. It is on the list of World Heritage Sites made by UNESCO. It was built around the time the city was founded, in the year 670, by an Arab general named Uqba Ibn Nafi. The Mosque is a religious landmark in Tunisia, and its design has also influenced mosques all over the Maghreb. Before the colleges in Tunis grew in importance in the 11th century, the Mosque was the place to learn both Islamic and non-Muslim subjects.
6) Ummayad Mosque Syria
The Ummayad Mosque, also known as the Great Mosque of Damascus, was built in Damascus, Syria, in the year 634. After the Arabs took over the area, a new building was built where the old Yahya Basilica used to be (the prophet).

Bukhari's Sahih Hadiths talk about how the prophets (PBUH) would ride or walk to the masjid on Saturdays to do two rak'ahs of the Friday prayer.
8) The Old Jumma Masjid of Kilakarai The
Palaiya Jumma Palli Mosque is in Kilakarai, Tamil Nadu. It was built by Yemeni merchants on the order of the Emperor of Yemen, who became a Muslim during the time of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). This mosque, which was built in 628 and then fixed up in the 11th century, stands tall as a reminder of how long Islam has been around and how the sea helped spread it.
Ibn Battuta also talks about this mosque in his book Rihla. He says that the people who went there "lived as if they were in the Arab region."
9) The Kufa Great Mosque

The design of this Mosque was inspired by traditional Chinese pagodas instead of the more common domes and minarets found in Mosques all over the world. Arabic writing and calligraphy are also used to decorate the Mosque. It's also a place where people who come to see the area can gather. Make sure to stop by this mosque, which is one of the oldest in the world, on your next trip.
