The 1GR-FE is a 4.0-liter V6 petrol engine developed by Toyota and introduced in the mid-2000s. It belongs to Toyota’s GR engine family and was designed primarily for SUVs, pickup trucks, and other utility-oriented vehicles. The engine uses a DOHC, 24-valve configuration and, depending on the application and model year, features Toyota’s VVT-i or Dual VVT-i variable valve-timing technology. It has an aluminum cylinder block and cylinder heads, helping reduce overall weight. The 1GR-FE is known for its smooth power delivery, strong low- and mid-range torque, and durability, making it suitable for both highway driving and off-road use. It has been used in vehicles such as the Toyota 4Runner, Tacoma, FJ Cruiser, Hilux, and Land Cruiser Prado in various markets. Depending on specification, output is generally around 235–285 hp, with torque varying by application. Its combination of reliability and usable torque has made it a popular Toyota V6.
