After a three-year pandemic, people are starting to return to work, and I am no exception. Since I changed companies, the distance between where I live and where I work has increased considerably. I have sold my two-wheeled motorbike, so I have to drive to work. However, driving in heavy traffic is not pleasant and driving to and from work requires more concentration which can negatively affect my productivity throughout the day.

I come from an average middle-class family where the only goal in life is to make money, so I have learnt the importance of relationships, mental health, financial freedom and physical health. When I first started working, I had no choice but to take passenger transport in Dubai to work. To be honest, I hated it at the time. Maybe it was because it was a forced choice rather than my own. Now, I believe in using my time wisely and I find public transport much better than driving myself to work. While there are other reasons for this, such as faster internet and better connectivity, changing the way you look at public transport is the biggest motivator.
Do something meaningful with your travelling time
As mentioned earlier, travelling time can be used to do something meaningful. Personally, I use my morning commute to read a book, write articles for Medium, check emails, and sometimes have a breakfast of fruit slices. As you've guessed from my to-do list, it takes me about 2 hours to get to the office. While public transport adds 30 to 45 minutes to my travel time, I triple my time usage.
Get rid of morning jitters
Since you are not a driver, you don't have to spend your precious brain power in the early morning on trivialities like threading in and out of traffic. If you have to drive in a country like UAE, not only will your brain power be used up on trivial things like driving, but you are also likely to get annoyed and angry at the way people drive on the roads. This can literally ruin your morning and make you less productive throughout the day.
Cheaper
We also need to consider the financial benefits of using passenger transport in Dubai. Passenger transportation is much cheaper than owning a car. As far as I'm concerned, travelling by bus is almost five times cheaper than driving your own car.
Good for the environment
Even if you're not an environmentalist, public transport helps keep the environment cleaner and less polluted. According to the American Public Transportation Association, public transport emits around 45% less carbon dioxide per passenger kilometer than private cars.
Improve your health
When you use passenger transportation services in Dubai, you have to take extra steps between the station and boarding the bus or train. A positive side effect of choosing public transport over the car is the extra physical activity you get on your daily journey.
In short, choosing car over public transport will only save you a few minutes of travelling time, but it will save you hours of working time. When you think about your priorities, you ultimately want to save productive time. Therefore, I recommend you take some time to find the best passenger transport options and experience the benefits for yourself. This is especially worthwhile for people who spend a lot of time commuting to and from work.
