Homeowners, admit it. Sometimes, it feels like forever to keep our home and surroundings in their best and most organized state all the time. We do get drained and frustrated every now and then, especially when we see certain tasks remain undone, or when things on our to-do list still seem endless despite our desperate efforts to get things done.

One reason we fail to accomplish things or immediately address whatever issues arising at home are time. When we are short on time, we miss getting everything done. Whether it is about fixing a plumbing problem, cleaning the house, or finishing a project—you will still end up feeling unproductive if you lack time. By knowing certain tricks, it will allow you to realize your home chores can possibly be fast and with less hassle.

However, worry no more. It’s about high time for you to learn a few hacks that will change your life for the better. Here are several things that you can do to improve your living at home:

Hack # 1: Unclog drains quickly and easily using coffee or using baking soda and vinegar.

If you want to say goodbye to clogged drains without necessarily calling a plumber or buying a de-clogger from the store, coffee grounds will do the trick. You simply just need to mix coffee grounds with boiling water and dish soap. First, mix the dish soap and coffee and pour the mixture into your drain. Afterward, slowly pour a good amount of boiling water down the drain. Experts claim that such a combination effectively breaks up any debris stuck in your pipes.

Another technique is to first pour hot water into the drain. After a minute, follow it up with some baking soda and then a cup of vinegar. One more time, dispense boiling water into your drain and your clogging problem is gone in no time.

Hack # 2: Make your toilet bowl spotless using a mouthwash.

Don’t underestimate the power of your mouthwash. It is not only useful for freshening up your breath; it is also an expedient solution to cleaning up your toilet. Rather than spending money on a costly product to clean your toilet, you can just make use of a capful of your mouthwash, pour it into the bowl, and leave it there for about 30 minutes before scrubbing the stains away. You will be amazed to see the results.

Hack # 3: Use white vinegar to keep your shower head looking good as new.

Showerheads as well as your faucets can become grimy especially after being used for so long. If you wish to remove the rust and dirt that have been accumulated around your shower head, simply soak it in white vinegar. Cover the showerhead with a plastic filled with white vinegar and let it get immersed overnight. Once you remove the bag, you will see a clean and brand new-looking shower head.

Hack # 4: Vacuum drain clogs.

Another smart hack to solve congested drains is using a wet-dry vacuum. This tactic is actually no stranger to plumbers because they too use the vacuum to remove clogs. Sometimes, a vacuum is all it takes to suck items and other rubbles out of your drain and it works every time.

Hack # 5: Do away with a smelly drain using cooking oil and water.

First, just pour about four cups of fresh water and then add one tablespoon of cooking oil into the drain. This is particularly applicable for drains that are seldom used. When your drain has been idle, it has the tendency to dry out giving way to the awfully smelly sewer gas from your sewer system to go up the drain. The fresh water and cooking oil solution helps trap and block the bad odor from your drain.

Hack # 6: Freshen up the air in your home naturally using vanilla beans.

Having vanilla beans simmered in water on the stove is your natural and downright healthy alternative for air fresheners. If you want to give a spicier touch to the scent, you may opt to add cinnamon to it. The best thing about this air freshening hack is that it does not put your health at risk. Air fresheners in the market, though they smell nice, contain chemicals that are harmful to your lungs.

There are in fact numerous life hacks that you can use to make your daily life better. The six hacks enumerated above are just a few of them and are more focused on the plumbing aspect of your home. Still, those hacks are helpful enough so you live life at home more conveniently.
