                             A HOME THAT DREAMS

The controversial and recently Nobel awardee singer-lyricist Bob Dylan had crooned, “How many roads must a man walk down/ Before you call him a man?/ The answer, my friends, is blowin’ in the wind.”
Yes, I truly believe that unless a man has walked down many roads and has struggled enough in his life, he can never settle down in the lap of luxury of his home. A home today means a mere edifice where the inhabitants lead their lives under its shelter. But does it really mean only that and nothing else? You need to give enough to your home in order for it to be able to reciprocate. People are constructing ‘dream homes’ under the supervision of renowned architects, which evidently provide a big hole in their overall budget. But they relent, under the assumption that a home is built for keeps and would go down for generations. It would provide as much of an immediate comfort as the satisfaction that a family heirloom has been constructed. In metropolitan cities, where do we get the space for constructing these? The emphasis should, therefore, be more on comfort and health than on mere gaudiness or a show of wealth.
Nuclear families today are residents of the ubiquitous ‘flat’ system. Here more than one family reside in homes constructed on the same floor or premises. Neighbours are meant for help and support in times of emergencies. It is for us to make own space as beautiful, comfortable and pleasurable as we possibly can. Not everyone can afford to live on the top floors of high-rise buildings where the pollution level is at the minimum. Hence there is the need for personal innovations that can go a long way to make our living as well as our homes healthy, memorable and beautiful. There may be several factors that can cause indoor toxicity. The following are just some of them:1.       The inhalation of cigarette smoke can be disastrous for everyone, especially children. 2.       The open windows for the homes facing the thoroughfares can facilitate the gushing in of impure carbon dioxide and other pollutant emanated from the automobiles on the roads. 3.       The cooking of food for a long period of time allows fumes which can be detrimental for the overall health of the inhabitants of the home. The installation of exhaust fans is just not enough. 4.        Chipping of poor quality paint materials on the walls, when mixed with the atmosphere we live in, can lead to toxicity. 5.       Concrete jungles are the bane of modern life. We cannot do without them. Yet there are ways to combat the evils they promote.
Instead of leading #MaskedLife at Home, it would be better if we can manage to follow these steps which will ensure not only fresh and clean air for our homes, but be instrumental in overall healthy living.
1.       Inhalation of cigarette smoke passively, that is by non-smokers and children of the household, is very dangerous. Indoor plants help to decrease the carbon dioxide level in the air and release that much-needed oxygen, for the lungs. 2.       When the traffic snarls become too unbearable and the amount of toxic smoke massive, it would be advisable to close the windows of those homes overlooking main thoroughfares.3.       Most modern flats have ‘modular kitchens’, which are mavericks in purging out the oily fumes emanating from cooking food. Cooking is a daily routine in every household. Yet if this can be done under suction chimneys, then the food would taste all the more better.
4.       Using Asian Paints Royale Atmos would not only ensure pure air for your homes, but lead to long-term benefits of providing all-round health improvement for the family. It is a paint that helps purify air. So Clean Air and Beautiful Homes are no longer chimerical dreams, but hardcore realities. “Which is why..” as the talented actress Deepika Padukone tells us in their adv on telly, the people of Asian Paints endorse their product in such a large scale.
5.       Concretisation is the most necessary evil of modern life. Yet there should be space for everyone where one can unwind. It may be done through yogic meditations in the mornings, it can be achieved through losing oneself in a plethora of books which maybe a little library in a corner, can provide.

Good living, as the old proverb states albeit in a different manner, begins at home. Why not start with the paint which Asian Paints, a name people trust, has just introduced into the Indian market? The Asian Paints Royale Atmosensures Clean Air for Beautiful Homes. Now-a-days, lung problems are as common as influenza or any other viral fever. The need for pure, clean air is an absolute must. So in order “To breathe clean air at home, start with your paint”.

This is my entry for the contest being held on Indiblogger in joint collaboration with Asian Paints Royale Atmos.
