A step-by-step guide to furnishing your brand-new abode

Your new house is a clean slate upon which you may create the perfect living environment, just as envisioned in interior design books, on Pinterest, or on Instagram.

There are always certain tried-and-true guidelines to follow, even if your design style is unique or you don't think you have one at all. Ten tried-and-true methods for sprucing up your abode in an expert manner are provided here.

1.Put up a brightly colored doormat.

The entrance to your house is the first thing guests see. Even before they step inside, your visitors will be impressed by a door with a striking color scheme. It's not a huge investment, but it will set the tone for the rest of your home's decor. You should trust your instincts when deciding on a hue, but you should also make sure it goes well with the exterior paint and trim of your property.

2. Make sure each space has a main point.

Locate the main point of each area (and no, it doesn't have to be a television!). Perhaps it's a grand fireplace, an eye-catching accent wall, or a picture window framing a breathtaking panorama. Arrange the room's furnishings and accents around the feature. Layouts that spark discourse should also be taken into account.

3.Use many layers of lighting

Ambient lighting, such as that from recessed lights or ceiling fixtures, provides overall illumination, while task lighting, such as pendants hung over a kitchen island or tabletop lamps in a library, provides focused illumination on a specific work surface or decorative object. The use of a variety of lighting fixtures lends a sophisticated air to any space.

A plant in every room!

Houseplants quickly liven up any space. Many houseplants are tolerant of carelessness, so even if you don't have a green thumb, you may still enjoy them. Don't be scared to crowd your indoor garden. Place huge, leafy plants in floor pots beside smaller succulents on a bookshelf. Plus, they contribute to a healthier environment by reducing pollution levels.

4.Strategically place mirrors.

Decorating with mirrors may be particularly helpful in tiny or gloomy areas, which is why some interior designers advocate placing them in every room. Mirrors provide the illusion of extra room when placed in confined areas. They wonderfully reflect light, even in dark places. One piece of advice from the pros: Mirrors should be hung perpendicular to windows rather than across the room. That way, you won't have to worry about all that lovely light escaping out the window again.

5. Be unafraid to combine styles

It's tempting to go all out and get a matching set, what with the couch, loveseat, armchair, and ottoman. To avoid making a space appear like a furniture store, try mixing and matching pieces from different collections. Putting together a beautiful dark wood table and matching or contrasting wood or upholstered dining chairs might do the trick. A neutral-colored couch and ottoman made of leather would look great in a living room with colorfully upholstered armchairs.

6. Use contrasting textures

You wouldn't want everything in your house to match perfectly, and the same goes for fabrics and decorative accessories. Just a few instances: a leather sofa with a furry throw, a jute mat with a multicolored wool rug on top, and a tiled fireplace with a salvaged wood mantle are all examples of this. Combining metals is also now fashionable.

7.enlarge your artwork.

People often make the mistake of buying a piece of art that is too tiny for the space it will occupy on the wall. (Hanging artwork at a height that isn't comfortable for the viewer is another typical mistake.) Choose a large, bold work to frame and hang on a large wall. Or, you might make a gallery wall by hanging many frames together. Generally speaking, artwork should occupy between two-thirds and three-quarters of a wall.

8. Discard anything you don't really value.

Whether it's an extravagant chandelier purchased on a whim or a family heirloom that has never felt right in your home, everyone has unwanted decor. It's time to say farewell with the move to a new house. Everything in your house, from artwork to furnishings, should be something you're proud to show off. Donate or sell your unwanted possessions; someone else may find great use in them.

9.Make use of your editing skills.

In terms of interior design, less is frequently more. It's easy to get carried away with adding details that may not improve the whole but instead make it more complicated. From time to time, you should walk through each room and get rid of any unnecessary or misplaced belongings.
