Before I Let Go

This book got my attention because it has an asexual character. I did read her other book and liked it. This was a fast read for me. I finished it in one day but no not in one sitting since that doesn't exist in my reading world. So it is very readable and was easy for me to get into but it was odd and I'm not just talking about the story itself.

Now I'm all for finding stand alone books because I always seem to bump into series but I have to admit that I wouldn't mind at least a novella to get more insight on what happened that day to Kyra. It goes back and forth between the two friends Corey and Kyra. She comes back seven months after her mom moves to Canada and she goes to boarding school. When Corey gets back to Lost she finds out that something happened and that things are super strange in this town. It was pretty vague so I would have liked more with Kyra in Lost without her best friend.

I found it weird when the page would say phone call and below it the phone call would start. That was just weird and for the majority of the book there weren't any quotation marks. I couldn't always tell what was being said and what was being thought. Near the end of the book there were quotations so that weirdness stopped. Aren't authors always looking to pad their word count? Would it be so horrible to have a short sentence that leads into the phone call instead of just having the two words right above the dialogue. Another weird thing was this one page that was a conversation between Corey and a friend from school It had the name of the person above and below it the dialogue. There would also be parts where it would say interior or exterior of the location the scene was taking place in. Is this supposed to be a play? The weirdness of those things aside I did enjoy this book since I have no problem putting a book down if I don't like it.
