Body contouring involves creating an aesthetically pleasing body, and adjusting the proportions to meet the individual's needs. Liposuction or liposculpture is a procedure that cosmetic surgeons use to smooth and shape areas of the body. This includes the neck and chin, the abdomen, the waist and the arms.

During body contouring fat from undesirable areas of the body is removed by liposuction (also known as lipoplasty). The excess fat can be taken out of any area on the body, including the neck, arms and breasts. To control the bleeding and to anesthetize this area, a tumescent is applied. Fat can also be used to prepare lipo injections into body areas that are desired by the patient, such as buttocks or facial features. Buttocks augmentation can be accomplished through liposuction, lipo injection and other body contouring techniques.

Body contouring does not treat obesity. It is more commonly used to remove stubborn fat deposits. People who are within 30% of their ideal weight but can't lose unwanted fat despite regular exercise and a healthy eating plan, make the best candidates.

What are the timeframes and recovery processes for ?
In order to perform lipoplasty, small incisions will be required in areas that are to have fat tissue removed. The extent of surgery, the preference of both the surgeon and patient and whether the patient receives local or general anesthesia will determine if a patient undergoes general or local anesthesia. Lipoplasty is always a one-day procedure, and the patient can go home on the same day.

The patient must wear compression garments to promote healing after surgery. The compression garment is worn from one to two week but can be needed longer for best results. Sutures are usually removed in five to seven day if they have not been dissolving.

After surgery, there will likely be some bruising or swelling, which may cause mild pain and discomfort. The pain can be managed easily with medications. Ultrasonic and lymphatic massages promote healing and reduce swelling. The swelling usually subsides within 4 to 6 weeks, but it can last up to 3 months. Three months following surgery, the patient can expect to be completely satisfied with his/her new appearance.

Cosmetic surgery offers advanced procedures for body contouring in addition to the common liposuction or lipoinjection. Breast implants and abdominoplasty, or a tummy-tuck, are two of the most popular procedures for advanced body contouring. The recovery time for these surgical procedures is longer, but they are worth it to many.

Body contouring provides positive, long-lasting results. Lipoplasty can be successful for a long time if the patient maintains a healthy diet and exercises regularly.
