If you've been thinking about seeing a chiropractor but haven't pulled the trigger yet, you're not alone. Most of the people who walk into BRAIN TO BODY® for the first time tell me the same thing: they'd been meaning to come in for months, sometimes years, but weren't sure what to expect. The unknown kept them waiting. Meanwhile, the pain kept building.

So let me remove that barrier entirely. Here's exactly what happens when you visit BRAIN TO BODY® in Chippendale, from the moment you walk in to the moment you walk out.

The Studio, Not the Clinic

The first thing people notice is that BRAIN TO BODY® doesn't feel like a typical chiropractic clinic. There's no fluorescent-lit waiting room with outdated magazines and a reception desk behind glass. The studio is designed to feel like a space you'd actually want to spend time in: clean, premium, and intentional.

We're located in Chippendale, right in the heart of Sydney's creative and tech corridor, a few minutes' walk from Central Station. The neighbourhood is full of founders, creatives, and professionals, and the studio reflects that energy. It's built for people who take their health as seriously as they take their work.

The Consultation: Understanding Your Story

Your first visit starts with a conversation, not an adjustment. I want to understand your full picture before I touch your spine.

We'll talk about what's brought you in: where the pain is, when it started, what makes it better or worse, and what you've tried so far. But we'll also go deeper than that. I want to know about your work setup, your training history, your sleep, your stress levels, and any past injuries or surgeries. All of these feed into the picture.

This isn't a checkbox exercise. How you live, move, and work directly shapes what's happening in your spine. A founder who sits at a desk 12 hours a day presents differently from a personal trainer who's on their feet all day. The consultation is where I start connecting the dots between your lifestyle and your symptoms.

The Assessment: Finding Out What's Actually Going On

After the consultation, we move into the physical assessment. This is where things get specific.

I'll assess your posture, looking at how you stand, how your weight distributes, and where the obvious asymmetries are. Then I'll test your range of motion, checking how each region of your spine moves and where the restrictions are. Finally, I'll do a hands-on spinal assessment, palpating each segment to identify exactly which joints are restricted, which muscles are in spasm, and where the dysfunction is centred.

This is the part that surprises most first-timers. They come in thinking "my lower back hurts," and the assessment reveals that the lower back pain is actually being driven by a restriction in the mid-back, a tight hip, or a pelvis that's not sitting level. Pain rarely shows up where the problem actually lives. The assessment is how we find the real source.

The Report: Your Clear Plan Forward

Once the assessment is done, I sit down with you and explain exactly what I've found. No jargon. No scare tactics. No vague promises.

I'll show you where the restrictions are, explain how they're connected to your symptoms, and lay out what the plan looks like. That includes how many visits I'd recommend, what we're aiming to achieve at each stage, and what you can expect in terms of progress.

I'll also be honest about what chiropractic can and can't do for your specific situation. If your issue needs imaging, a referral, or a different type of care, I'll tell you. The goal is to give you clarity, not to sell you a treatment plan.

The Adjustment: What It Feels Like

If it's appropriate on the first visit, and for most people it is, we'll do your first adjustment.

Let me address the elephant in the room: the sound. When a joint is adjusted, you'll often hear a popping or cracking sound. That's not bones grinding. It's a release of gas from the joint capsule as the joint opens up and moves through a range it's been restricted from. It's completely normal and it's not painful.

The adjustment itself is a quick, precise force applied to a specific joint. Most people describe it as a moment of pressure followed by immediate relief, like something that was stuck has finally let go. Some people feel a bit sore afterwards, similar to the feeling after a workout. That's your body responding to the change, and it typically settles within 24 hours.

What you'll likely notice straight away is that you can move more freely. The area that was tight or restricted will feel like it's been unlocked. Some people feel lighter, more balanced, or more relaxed. Others feel energised. The response varies, but the feedback I hear most often is: "Why did I wait so long?"

After the Visit: What Happens Next

You'll leave the studio with a clear understanding of what was found, what was done, and what comes next. If we've started a corrective plan, I'll give you any home care instructions, whether that's specific movements, postural cues, or things to avoid in the short term.

Your follow-up visits are typically shorter than the first, because we've already done the deep assessment. We'll check your progress, adjust as needed, and keep moving through the plan. The frequency depends on your situation: some people need weekly visits in the early phase, others less. The plan is always tailored, never a one-size-fits-all schedule.

Common Concerns (Answered Honestly)

"Is it safe?" Chiropractic care is one of the safest forms of manual healthcare. The adjustment techniques I use are specific, controlled, and adapted to each person's body, age, and condition. Serious adverse events are extremely rare, and I screen for contraindications before every adjustment.

"Will it hurt?" The adjustment itself is rarely painful. You might feel some pressure, and the sound can be surprising the first time, but most people find it comfortable and even enjoyable. Post-adjustment soreness is possible but mild and short-lived.

"Do I need to keep coming forever?" No. The goal is to fix the problem, teach you how to maintain the result, and get you to a point where you only come in for periodic check-ups, like a dentist. I'm not interested in creating dependency. I'm interested in results.

"What should I wear?" Whatever you're comfortable in. Many of our patients come straight from work or the gym. As long as you can move freely, you're fine.
