Octomate approached us with an idea for managing a part-time or project-based workforce. Gig workers often deal with red tape and delays and sometimes even receive incorrect pay. HR, on the other hand, needs to keep track of the complicated work, leave, and payment status of part-timers. Octomate imagined solving these issues with an online tech solution and together, we built one from the ground up.
We understandWe conducted in-depth research to better understand needs and pain points that ranged from payment issues, absenteeism, to applying for and keeping track of leaves. Gig workers cited financial stress as their number one worry, with late wages and sudden expenses forcing them to borrow money.
What was needed was one platform supporting all stakeholder needs. We held design workshops to brainstorm on features, paper prototype the user interface, and align on the user journey for web and mobile versions. We developed high fidelity wireframes, later refined through rounds of testing with real users.
We resolveCo-created with Octomate, we built an enterprise HR solution with two faces—a web portal for employers and a mobile app for remote workers. Built on blockchain for maximum security, it expedites human resource activities for employers and gives gig workers early access to wages earned through an instant pay solution. Anticipating future growth, we developed a design system to guide and maintain consistency for subsequent iterations.
ImpactOctomate was “designed to help companies manage their workforce, while driving recruitment and retention” and “pay workers the moment they clock out”. With it, employers manage claims, leaves, training, payroll, and more—all transactions are stored securely on blockchain, accessible for real-time retrieval and checking. On the flipside, gig workers can now clock in and out, submit leave and claims on the go with an easy-to-use mobile app. Diverse worker scenarios are more manageable, saving time previously spent on manual processing. Engagement levels have improved, turnover rates, reduced; part-timers no longer wait for their pay. In short, when technology is built around people’s needs, happier happens.
