The Canadian government has recently launched a novel Permanent Residency (PR) program, now accepting applications specifically from Colombian, Haitian, and Venezuelan individuals aiming to secure permanent residency in Canada.
The announcement of this unique humanitarian pathway was first made public by Immigration Minister Marc Miller on October 10, 2023.
This innovative PR program is designed to embrace approximately 11,000 applicants, particularly those with family ties in Canada, who fulfill certain criteria outlined below.
Eligibility Requirements for the Recent PR Program
This program is open to individuals from Colombia, Haiti, or Venezuela who are presently living in South or Central America, Mexico, or the Caribbean and have family in Canada who are either citizens or permanent residents.
Eligible family members encompass a spouse, common-law partner, child (regardless of age), grandchild, parent, grandparent, or sibling. Check your eligibility for Canada PR on CRS Calculator Canada.
These family members in Canada must commit to providing support for the applicant and their immediate family for a duration of one year.
How to Immigrate to Canada?
The Canadian Express Entry program, initiated in January 2015, serves as a modern method for handling immigration applications for key economic immigrant programs in Canada, including the Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trades programs. This system is designed for individuals who aspire to immigrate to Canada for full-time living and working, and who meet the eligibility criteria of at least one of these programs. Interested candidates can showcase their intention to become permanent residents of Canada by creating an Express Entry profile. After joining the Express Entry pool, candidates are evaluated and scored based on the PR Points Calculator, a point-based system unique to the program. This score plays a crucial role in determining the candidate's position within the pool. Those with the highest scores are then given the opportunity to apply for permanent residency in Canada.
