Accidents can lead to serious injuries, expensive medical bills, and lost wages. However, you can get compensated, but this usually means you need to find a food personal injury lawyer.

Insurance companies have the financial means to pay highly qualified attorneys who specialize in fighting personal injury claims. Choosing a personal injury lawyer could be the most important decision you make in your case since the amount you receive as compensation will be determined to a large extent by your lawyer's skills, experience, and dedication.

Don't make the mistake of hiring a personal injury lawyer based on their ads. You might have the misfortune of coming across law firms that make their money from high volume and quick turnover. This means that they will settle your case as quickly as possible for whatever amount the insurance company offers because they'll still get a reasonable commission and save time, allowing them to take on more cases.

Your lawyer needs to be someone you feel comfortable with and who you can trust

But how can you find a lawyer who has all the qualities you're looking for? As with anything worthwhile, it will take a bit of work. Here are three important questions to ask a potential personal injury lawyer.

How Much Experience Do You Have with Cases Similar to Mine?

According to Baumgartner Law Firm, when choosing a personal injury attorney to protect your interests, it's important to make sure they have a record of success with your type of case. This can make a huge difference in the amount of money you receive.

Do not assume that a personal injury lawyer has already handled cases similar to yours. Ask them about their experience and track record. If you were hurt in a slip-and-fall accident, you might not want to hire a personal injury lawyer that mostly deals with car accident cases. Similarly, you wouldn't hire a lawyer who specializes in workers' compensation if your injuries were caused by a truck accident.

Are All Your Cases Settled Out of Court?

This is another important question that most people overlook. To get the best compensation for a case, you need to show the insurance company that you're willing and ready to take the case to court.

As we mentioned in the introduction, some lawyers advertise heavily to get as many clients as possible, and then they quickly settle their cases out of court. This works well for them but not so much for their clients. You need a lawyer that's willing to put in the work and who can show you a record of their verdicts.

What Are Your Fees?

The majority of personal injury attorneys work on a contingency basis which means they take their commission from the money you get paid as compensation for your damages. This is usually somewhere between 25 and 40%.

Be careful about opting for attorneys that charge a lower percentage. They might be doing so because they lack experience. Ask them about their track record. A more qualified lawyer can get you a much better settlement, so even if they charge a higher commission, you'll still get more money.

You'll also want to inquire about any additional fees if you don't win. Some lawyers charge for other case-related costs, even if they work on a contingency basis.
