Color Me Random

There are just some things that confuse me. I was scrolling through some comments and noticed someone saying they can't read anything written before 1990. What? That makes no sense. If you have a person that's this ridiculous in your life think about giving the person the book in a different edition. You aren't really lying since you'd tell them the date that the new cover came out.

I don't look at the publication date because I don't care about that unless I'm looking for a specific edition of a book. I need the small paperback when I'm checking books out from the library since that's the best one to read walk with. A hardcover is too heavy and awkward and so is the trade paperback  because it tends to be too floppy. If it is under 400 pages I can deal with it if there's no other option but the small paperback is best because it fits in one hand and I can do the left thumb page turn thing. So if this person finds an author they adore they won't read any boos they wrote before this deadline? That makes no sense to me.

The Wicked Deep has a beautiful cover and it looks gorgeous naked too but that isn't why I wanted to read it. A pretty cover is just a bonus. I don't understand people who won't read books because of the cover. That makes no sense to me. I can understand a book cover being embarrassing so you don't want to be reading it in public which is why ebooks are great because you can hide those kinds of book covers but I've never decided to not read a book because of the cover. Personally I hate the cover for Turtles All The Way Down but that isn't the reason I have no interests in reading it. I have no interest because I've tried reading John Green before and he's just not my cup of tea. You could be missing out on your new favorite book and or author because you said you couldn't read a book with that cover. Don't you realize how silly that is?

If you have that kind of thinking I challenge you to go to the library and pick up one of those books that you decided against reading to see if you like it. Think of it as try a chapter tag at the library. Sit down or check the book out and actually open it up and start reading. Sure the book might suck but it might not. Don't limit yourself when it comes to reading books. The same goes for the silliness of being obsessed with page numbers. I don't get that either. The number of pages doesn't turn me off and the only time I look for a page count is when I'm tracking down a certain version from the library because I want the paperback. I did look at the page count for The Renegades and was surprised that it was so short since it looks bigger than it is. I think the people that are so fixated on reading books that are between 300 and 400 pages do it so they can read more books.

Maybe I'm strange but when I read I read to enjoy books. I don't think hey I need to read a bunch of books that are a certain length so I can meet some stupid quota. It just doesn't make sense to me. I'd rather read seven hundred page books that are enjoyable than read shorter ones that are meh. The Cruel Prince is a total example of meh since it was seriously lacking although I will admit that it is readable. Since people seem to have a different view on what makes a book long I'll often check the page count when someone talks about a book being so long and most of the time the book isn't long at all. I heard someone complain about a 368 page book. What? I think these weird restrictions could very well play a part in people getting into reading slumps. Just look for something good to read. If you don't want to read classics that's fine but don't put this weird date that you refuse to cross because you decided you only wanted to read books from 1990 on.

I think it was the end of last year when I finally picked up a Meg Cabot book. I read Jinx and loved it so I've been reading her books. Do I care when they were written? Of course not. She's a new favorite author. I've really enjoyed The Mediator series. I'm reading Size 12 And Ready To Rock which is part of the Heather Wells series. This is an adult series about a former teen pop star that works at a college where people die a lot. Heather has become a new favorite fictional character. I've enjoyed every book I've read so far but the ones written in text and emails not as much but the writing and characters made it worth reading them even though I'm not crazy about the format since it was fairly smooth and not too jerky.

Another series that I love is the Calliope Reaper Jones one by Amber Benson. Yes that Amber Benson. That episode of Buffy gets me every time. Calliope is the daughter of death. There are only five books and I love Calliope. She's trying to live in the mortal world but she's the daughter of death. You can just marathon this series. I haven't read her witchy series that I can't think of the name of but plan to since I do have the first book.

I really need to try to work more stand alones into my life. The Weather Warden series by Rachel Caine is a really good one. There's also a spin off series. I'm blanking on the main character but I think the car is named Mona. In this world  people can control the weather and there are djinn. This is an adult series. I do need to get back to the Morganville Vampires series which is complete too and the web series starred Amber Benson. I also really need to check out her latest series since I've never gotten around to them yet. So many books. So much time. So not a fast reader.

I've also been working my way through the Sweet Valley High books except for the first 11. Sadly I wasn't able to get my hands on them. This is a fun series that has a soap opera flair to it which makes sense since the author was a soap opera writer and this was intended to be a soap hence the number of books.

RL Stine's Fear Street books are I guess a guilty pleasure for me although I don't hide my love for them. Weird shit happens in this town Shadyside especially on Fear Street. Fun horror series.

From Hoopla I got a Christopher Pike book since I've been craving him. Some of his books are kinda along the same vein as the Fear Street  books like the one with the VCR that records the future. I checked out The Secret Of Ka one of his books that I haven't read yet.
