What is dex?

A decentralized exchange or dex is a type of cryptocurrency exchange that operates without a central authority or central control. The governance is in the hands of the users.

 

It allows Peer-to-Peer Trading:

DEXs enable peer-to-peer trading of cryptocurrencies, allowing users to exchange digital assets directly with each other.

 

Decentralization rule :

DEXs operate on blockchain technology and follow the principles of decentralization, ensuring transparency and security.

 

User-Controlled Wallets:

Users retain control of their private keys and funds in DEXs, reducing the risk of hacks or fraud associated with centralized exchanges.

 

So what are the main Examples of DEXs:

Uniswap: A popular DEX built on the Ethereum blockchain, known for its automated market maker (AMM) system.SushiSwap: A DEX that forked from Uniswap, offering additional features like yield farming.PancakeSwap: A DEX running on the Binance Smart Chain, providing lower transaction fees compared to Ethereum-based DEXs.

 

Dex and Liquidity Pools:

DEXs use liquidity pools where users can contribute funds to facilitate trading. They earn fees in return. Example: Liquidity providers in Uniswap add funds to pools, such as ETH/USDT, to enable trading between these assets.

 

Dex’s Non-Custodial Nature:

DEXs are non-custodial, which means users don’t need to deposit their funds on the exchange, reducing the risk of losing assets due to exchange failures.

 

What are Cross-Chain DEXs?

The DEXs which support cross-chain trading, allowing users to exchange assets between different blockchain networks. For Example, Thorchain (RUNE) is a cross-chain DEX enabling swaps between various cryptocurrencies.
