Initial Inspection
The lifting equipment must be examined by a competent person to ensure that the assembly is completed correctly and safely. Best practice is to perform a visual inspection of all rigging equipment upon receiving it from the supplier.
It is recommended to inspect the hardware, hooks and slings, and double check the tagging or markings of the products to ensure that they are well ordered and suitable for the project specification.

Frequent Inspection
For special applications rigging equipment should be inspected by a competent person on a daily or pre-shift basis. The inspector should also make sure that the rigging gear being used for the lift meets the specific job requirements in which it’s being used for. If the equipment is used multiple times a day inspection can be carried out several times before it is in operation.

Periodic Inspection
OSHA and ASME require a documented periodic inspection of your lifting and rigging equipment every 12 months at a minimum and monthly inspections for severe service conditions.
